Woodbury village near Exeter is celebrating the opening of a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) situated on the village playing field.

The MUGA, which has cost over £60,000, provides an all-weather playing surface for 5-a-side football, netball/basketball and cricket.

Located in Town Lane, it provides an excellent space for people to exercise and is surrounded on all sides by a steel mesh fence and has access for the disabled.

Finances for this facility came from a number of different sources including the Norman Family Trust, Devon Freemasons, East Devon District Council, Devon County Council, Woodbury Parish Council and from many local supporters.

Fund raising and project co-ordination was undertaken by Woodbury Community Playing Fields, a small charity established to operate the playing fields. WCPF Chair Gary King said: "We are delighted that the MUGA is now available for all to enjoy.

"It enhances already improved playground facilities here is Woodbury.

"Two years ago we completed a project to replace the old playground with a modern and exciting range of equipment”

A ribbon cutting ceremony is being held on Thursday 14 June, where an official of the Norman Family Trust, the charity who donated part of the funds for the facilities, will officially open the new play area.

There will be an opening party with refreshments at 3.30pm, the ribbon cutting will take place at 4pm. Everyone welcome.
