One dollar may go a very long way when it comes to the Mega Millions lottery, which may be changing its gameplay rules and main prizes starting October 28th. While rumors of these dazzling changes have hit the media in the last few days, the Mega Millions officials have yet to make an official statement regarding the potential changes.

In this article, we will summarize the essential changes that Mega Millions may be facing this fall so that you can be prepared for the brand-new face of this already world-famous game.

These are as follows:

1. New Price for Mega Millions Ticket
The current price for one line in the Mega Millions lottery is $1.00, but as of October 2017, this may jump to a full $2.00, according to the latest rumors. If the changes are to be implemented in the following months, lottery players will have to be motivated enough to invest twice more money in this lottery. However, considering the other fabulous changes, the price increase may be entirely worth it.

2. Guess Ranges for Mega Millions Numbers
As per the current rules of the Mega Millions, players must choose five numbers from a guess range from 1 to 75 and a special number, which is called the Megaball, from a guess range of 1 to 15. However, the new gameplay rules of the game could bring entirely new guess ranges. As of October 2017, players will be asked to choose five numbers from 1 to 70 and then one Megaball from 1 to 25.

This is extremely important because it completely changes the odds of choosing the correct numbers and winning the jackpot and the other Mega Millions prizes. If the odds of scooping the Mega Millions jackpot are now 1 in 258,890,850, they could shift to a staggering 1 in 302,575,350 from October 28th on.

3. US Powerball-Sized Jackpots and Secondary Prizes for the Mega Millions
The main aim of the potential price increase in the Mega Millions tickets is raising the amounts of the prizes in the game as well. This starts with the minimum rate for the Mega Millions jackpot, which is $15 million at the moment, and that could be raised to a whopping $40 million.

This entails that Mega Millions jackpots, which are already among the largest in lottery history, could reach even higher record-breaking amounts. The US Powerball holds the world record for the largest lottery jackpot, with a $1.6 billion prize, which was won on January 13th 2016. These new prize ranges could make the Mega Millions an even more fierce competitor for the US Powerball.

Moreover, it is not only the jackpot that stands to be increased from October 28th; the change is set to affect every single one of the prize divisions, with the exception of the second-tier prize, which will remain at the $1-million threshold.

The third-tier prize will be increased to $10,000 from $5,000, the fifth-tier prize will be raised to $200 from $50, and the following prizes up to the ninth-division will be doubled. This fabulous prize increase is bound to have lottery fans lining up to play Mega Millions.

For the moment, the new set of rules must be approved by the New York State Gaming and Lottery Commission. It remains to be seen what the Mega Millions officials will say about the future of these changes. Until then, the Mega Millions lottery will abide by its original rules and players can put in their tickets as they have before news of these changes ever made it into the media.
