Up to 59 % of pre-hospital deaths could be prevented

Up to 59 per cent of ‘pre-hospital’ deaths from injury could potentially be prevented if more people stepped in with some simple first aid, according to new research commissioned by the British Red Cross and conducted by the University of Manchester. While 93 per cent will call for an ambulance if they find someone with an injury, first aid intervention of any kind was infrequent. Around half did not attempt any first aid while waiting for the emergency medical services to arrive*. The research, which has studied data from coroners’ offices, was last carried out 22 years ago by Prof...

St Sidwell’s Point, which will be at the heart of the redeveloped bus station site, will be Britain’s first Passivhaus leisure centre.

That means it will be an ultra low energy building, saving at least 70 per cent on its energy costs – around £185,000 a year.

The centre’s three pools will also have exceptional water quality, with minimal chemical content.

The study has also revealed that a fifth (21%) of parents of children aged of 3-16 in the South...
