Exeter climbs in top 20 of Guardian University Guide 2026

The University of Exeter has increased its standing in the top 20 UK universities in the Guardian University Guide 2026 .

Exeter climbed one place to 17th in the latest guide, published on Saturday 13 September.

The result that means the University of Exeter has secured a top 20 place in all three major university rankings.

Teaching excellence, student satisfaction and career prospects were among the factors used to rank universities.

Local school children get closer to nature

Last month over 200 school children braved the winter snow and rain to join the South Devon National Trust Rangers for their fortnight of schools activities.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from seven local schools travelled to the National Trust sites at East Soar Farm and Wembury beach, where stream and pond dipping, gorse cutting and scavenger hunts were all on the agenda.

University of Exeter law students have been awarded the prize for Best New Student Pro Bono Activity by the Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC MP for its legal helpdesk that provides assistance to court users.

The Community Legal Helpdesk is run by Law students who are supervised by a qualified lawyer, providing free information and guidance to members of the public involved in legal disputes. Family, small claims housing and employment problems are the most common queries.

Exeter student strikes gold with physics display in Parliament

Claire Woollacott, 24, a PhD Postgraduate Research Student from the School of Physics at the University of Exeter, struck gold at a competition in the House of Commons for excellence in her physics research, walking away with a £3,000 prize.
