Devon schools travel to Lapland and back 16 times as part of the ‘Leg it to Lapland’ winter challenge

Pupils, teachers and parents from schools across Devon walked, cycled and scooted their way to school during December for the Sustrans ‘Leg it to Lapland’ winter challenge. Sixteen schools took part in a race to be the first school to travel the 2,100 miles - the equivalent of travelling from Devon to Lapland.

The Exeter College Student Awards has celebrated the successes of outstanding students - marking yet another stellar year.

Twenty-four exceptional college student award winners from across Devon were honoured at a glittering gala dinner held on Thursday, January 10th 2019.

Over £10,000 raised for charity in four months

Exeter School pupils and staff are celebrating a successful first term of fundraising with the news that over £10,000 has been raised for charity in one term.

Each year a committee of Sixth Form representatives selects three charities for the school to support during the course of the academic year. For the autumn term, pupils chose Rowcroft Hospice, an independent charity providing a wide range of specialist palliative care services for people and their families with progressive life-limiting illnesses in South Devon. Last Thursday, the School Council from Exeter Deaf Academy presented at Devon County Hall Council Chambers. The deaf students aged between 15-16 years old stood up and delivered a confident presentation to the Chamber in British Sign Language (BSL), articulating the need for regional TV news programmes to be accessible for all, and explained their goal was for the Southwest’s regional TV broadcasters to lead the way for the rest of the UK.
