Despite players and fans alike looking forward to a mouth-watering showdown with France to see who would come out on top of Pool C, the group ended in a bit of an anti-climax for England. A typhoon forecast to be hitting Tokyo on the weekend of the match caused World Rugby officials to cancel the game out of fears for the safety of players and supporters alike.

The result is that the game is scored as a 0-0 draw, meaning both sides get two points apiece, and England go through to the quarter-finals as pool winners. It’s a strange situation for Eddie Jones’ men to find themselves in...

Sea change for women in water sports

The Teignmouth-based company and the regional variation of the UK’s viral #ThisGirlCan campaign are encouraging more women on the water by offering ladies-only half price taster sessions in sailing.

According to Sport England, there are 62% more men than women taking part in regular water sports across the country (source: Active Lives Survey 17/18, 397,700 v 247,500).

The sailing sessions build on a successful ladies-only paddle boarding event hosted by SeaSports Southwest and Devon Girls Can earlier this year, in May.

The events proved so popular that additional...

Match report: City 1 Forest Green Rovers 0

A first-half strike from Ryan Bowman proved the difference as Exeter City beat Forest Green Rovers 1-0 at St James Park on Saturday.

Grecians’ boss Matt Taylor made two changes to the starting XI for the fixture, with Jonny Maxted making his league debut for City, while Aaron Martin also came in for Dean Moxey, who dropped to the bench.

City started brightly and, after an intense opening two minutes of pressing, narrowly missed out on reaping immediate rewards as Aaron Martin headed just wide from a corner. A superb piece of skill from Ryan Bowman then set up an incisive...

Rob Baxter believes tomorrow's Premiership Rugby Cup clash with local rivals Bristol Bears at Sandy Park (3pm) offer a number of exciting challenges for his Exeter Chiefs squad.

Firstly, there is the small matter of a semi-final spot being up for grabs for his side, who currently head Pool C entering into the final round of qualification.

Secondly, local bragging rights will be very much up for grabs in this 'Derby Day' encounter and, most importantly, the game offers the players a final chance to stake their claim ahead of next week's Gallagher Premiership opener against...

Competitors at last year's Great West Run

Exeter gets ready for Great West Run this weekend

More than 2,500 runners are preparing to pound the streets of Exeter this weekend, for the city’s 35th Great West Run and Activate events.

Amongst the participants are those running for charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, FORCE, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare. Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for charities and organisers Runjoy hope to top that this year.

Event organiser Mark Cowen says the fundraising is a key part of the event. He adds: ‘We’re all really excited about this year’s event, and the knowledge that year after year, we are...

White to leave Chiefs at end of season

Nic White says it's with a heavy heart that he will depart Exeter Chiefs at the end of the 2019/20 season.

The Australian international has today confirmed he will be heading home to former club Plus500 Brumbies on a two-year deal.

It will bring to an end a successful three-year stint for the scrum-half, who joined the Chiefs in 2017 from French Top 14 outfit, Montpellier.

A popular member of the current Chiefs make-up, it comes as no real surprise that White is heading back Down Under, as it was part of a mutual agreement he had made with the Devon club and the...

Exeter City fancied to keep rolling against Forest Green

Exeter City host Forest Green Rovers on October 12 aiming to continue their excellent start to the League Two season.

A long unbeaten run saw Exeter’s League Two betting odds to win the title slashed to 6/1 and they will fancy their chances of picking up another three points against Forest Green.

City will undoubtedly be hoping to build on their early season results after what has been a frustrating few years for the club.

They missed out on promotion after losing in play-off finals in 2017 and 2018 , before being denied a place in the end-of-season shoot-out on the...
