Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Struggling Plymouth Argyle sack Carl Fletcher

Exeter City rivals Plymouth Argyle have sacked manager Carl Fletcher after 16 months in charge of the struggling League Two side.

Argyle are only two points clear of the relegation zone after losing 2-1 at home to John Ward's Bristol Rovers. Ward was set to become Argyle director of football just three weeks ago, until being offered the job as Rovers boss.

Former Argyle and Wales midfielder, Fletcher, 32, initially took over as caretaker after Peter Reid's sacking in September 2011. In his post-match interview with BBC Radio Devon, he revealed: "[Owner] James Brent has just...

Exeter City celebrate victory at Adams Park

A penalty save by Artur Krysiak helped Exeter City to a 1-0 victory against Wycombe at Adams Park. City had to play much of the game a man light, after Jamie Cureton was sent off in the first half for a kick on a Wanderers defender.

The side could have capitulated when the hosts were awarded a penalty early in the second half. Krysiak’s save kept parity, and John O’Flynn forced an unlikely winner in the final ten minutes as Kortney Hause turned the ball into his own net.

City boss Paul Tisdale made just a single change to the Grecians’ starting XI for the trip to Adams Park...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter was left frustrated after a late penalty try ensured visiting Bath of a share of the points in their Aviva Premiership clash at Sandy Park.

Leading 12-5 entering into the final throws of a keenly-contested derby battle, the Chiefs – not for the first time in the game – fell foul of referee David Rose, who awarded the visitors a crucial score with just four minutes remaining.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson had earlier kicked four penalties for the home side to cancel out a first half try from Michael Claassens, but it was not to be for the...

A 97th-minute equaliser by Andy Iro gave Barnet an unlikely point at St James Park, by stealing a 2-2 draw from Exeter City.

First-half goals by Danny Coles and Scot Bennett put City in a commanding position at the break, which arguably could have been even more comfortable.

The City fans had to endure a nervous final 15 minutes – and an extra added seven – after Jon Nurse managed to squeeze in an effort in the second half.

And the unthinkable happened in the final throes as Iro snuck in his effort on the turn, to deny City what could have been a comfortable win....

Christmas may have been earlier in the week, but Bath were gift-wrapped a share of the spoils in their latest Aviva Premiership match-up with the Exeter Chiefs, writes Mark Stevens.

With just four minutes remaining of another keenly-contested derby encounter at a packed Sandy Park, referee David Rose handed the visitors a belated festive present in the shape of a penalty try.

That score, combined with the resultant conversion from replacement Tom Heathcote, ensured Exeter’s search for a first-ever top flight win over Gary Gold’s side will extend into another season at least...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is predicting a bright future ahead for three of the club’s rising stars after they today agreed new deals with the Aviva Premiership club.

With Baxter busy sorting out new contracts for a number of his current first-team squad, the news that England Under-20s internationals Jack Nowell, Henry Slade and Sam Hill have all agreed two-year contracts to stay at Sandy Park is yet another welcome boost to the Exeter leader.

The talented trio, all of whom are part of the club’s highly successful Academy system, are just the latest in a line of...

Exeter City slipped to a 3-1 defeat on Boxing Day at home to a lively Oxford United side, who fared better in the wet weather.

James Constable broke the deadlock in the first half by capitalising on a bouncing ball, despite Exeter starting the brightest.

His second early after the interval was followed immediately by a strike from Peter Leven, putting the U’s in the driving seat.

Jamie Cureton netted a penalty midway through the second half to give Exeter a fighting chance, but defensive resolve by the visitors allowed them to hold onto their lead and subsequently...

Christmas has certainly come early for supporters of the Exeter Chiefs after it was confirmed two more of their senior stars have agreed new contracts with the Aviva Premiership.

Just days after full-back Luke Arscott committed his immediate future to the Sandy Park outfit, prop Brett Sturgess and fly-half Gareth Steenson have followed suit by agreeing similar two-year deals. The announcement is yet another welcome boost for head coach Rob Baxter, who has made no secret of his desire to tie down the futures of a number of his frontline stars. Speaking after his side's narrow loss...

Freddie Burns stuck the boot into Exeter Chiefs ahead of Christmas as he kicked his Gloucester team to a narrow 18-16 Aviva Premiership victory at Kingsholm, writes Mark Stevens.

The England starlet landed all 18 points for the Cherry & Whites as his six penalties ended the Devon club’s impressive seven-game winning streak in all competitions.

The Chiefs, however, played their part in an absorbing contest as Simon Alcott’s second half try, coupled with 11 points from the boot of Gareth Steenson, at least ensured the Devonians headed back down the wet M5 with a...
