Skipper Dean Mumm insists there is still so much for him and Exeter Chiefs team-mates to go after between now and the end of the season despite seeing their European Challenge Cup hopes end on Saturday night at Kingsholm. The Devon club were denied a second major final appearance this season when Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester edged them out 30-19 in a hard-fought semi-final encounter. However, the Australian international - who is to leave the Chiefs at the end of the current campaign following three highly successful seasons at Sandy Park - was in defiant mood when addressing the...

Valiant display by Chiefs

Exeter’s hopes of reaching a first-ever European Challenge Cup Final ended in disappointment as rivals Gloucester prospered in an all-action last four meeting at Kingsholm.

Rob Baxter’s side put up a valiant display against their Aviva Premiership counterparts, but it was not enough as the Cherry & Whites advanced thanks in the main to converted tries from Billy Meakes, Tom Savage and Jonny May.

854279-2Greig Laidlaw and James Hook stuck the boot further into the Chiefs with the remainder of the points – and it will be Edinburgh who now await them in the showpiece event...

Exeter City lose in stoppage-time

Match report: Exeter City 0 Southend 1

Exeter City fell to a 1-0 defeat in stoppage-time at the hands of Southend United at St James Park.

A well-contested game saw Exeter have a lot of the chances but Daniel Bentley was to record his sixth straight shut-out.

Exeter looked like they were going to also keep their sheets clean – only for Michael Timlin to steal it in stoppage-time.

Jimmy Keohane, Clinton Morrison and David Wheeler all come in for a start in the attacking positions, and Scot Bennett jumped in at centre-half – totally four changes.

The talented tight-head, who has agreed a two-year deal with the Sandy Park outfit, is Baxter’s seventh new addition for next term and his second is as many weeks from English rugby’s second tier.
