Tee off for charity

There is still chance to tee off for charity at this year’s ‘Charlie’s Trophy’ on Friday 3 July.
Set to return for its third successful year, the charity golf day is a fantastic fun-filled event for budding pro and novice golfers alike to dust off their golf clubs and take to picturesque greens of Dainton Park Golf Club.

Organised by Firewatch CEO Martin Smith, the event is named after Martin’s 4-year old grandson Charlie Lawlor, who has a condition called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome [RTS].

Charlie’s parents, Becky and Gary both work for Firewatch and are very keen to raise awareness of RTS which effects just 1 in 125,000 babies born in the UK. Last year’s ‘Charlie’s Trophy’ Golf Day saw an incredible 124 golfers support the event and it proved to be a great success with over £12,700 being raised and donated to the RTS Support Group, plus other local charities.

This year, there are over 150 entries to date making ‘Charlie’s Trophy’ one of the largest charity golf days in the South West. Through the event, Firewatch will primarily be raising funds for the RTS Support Group and local charity Exeter Deaf Academy with other beneficiaries from the event including Children’s Hospice South West, Chicks Charity and Action for Children.

‘Charlie’s Trophy’ will be a Pairs, Team and Individual competition, so you can take on the challenge by yourself or take to the course with your friends, colleagues or partners. Individual entries are also welcome for the Pairs/Team competition as the organisers can partner you up in advance of the day.

Included in your entry fee will be 8 pair and 5 team prizes, thanks to the main sponsors System6 Kitchens of Exeter and supporting sponsors, Jelf Group, Brite Recruitment, Darnell’s, Firewatch and Crisp Professional Development. This year’s prize table will be better than ever with over 50 prizes to compete for. Topping the list of prizes is an all-inclusive holiday to Mauritius for competitors who can beat the Ladies Professional Tour Player Kelly Tidy (and score a hole in one!), plus a £10,000 kitchen donated by main event sponsors System6 Kitchens, for any competitor who gets a hole in one on the 8th hole so the heat is on!

Firewatch CEO Martin Smith commented, “Charlie’s Trophy is a great event for all involved and we’re really looking forward to this year’s competition. The day itself is full of laughter and it’s fantastic to see so many people coming together in support of Charlie, helping to raise awareness of RTS and the other local charities. Each year has been incredible – it’s amazing to see the generosity of supporters and participants and I’m really pleased that we can also support essential local charities such as Exeter Deaf Academy.”

Laura Board, Community and Corporate Fundraiser at Exeter Deaf Academy added, “We’re really looking forward to July’s event and we’re incredibly grateful to be one of the main beneficiaries for Charlie’s Trophy this year. As a charity, we’re not funded in the same way as other schools so Charlie’s Trophy charity golf day will make a real difference to the support we can provide our students.”

The closing date for entries is Friday 19th June so there is still time to enter Charlie’s Trophy 2015 competition. For more information on how to take part or how to become a Hole or Tee sponsor, please contact Martin Smith on 01626 333122 or visit:
