The Hidden Strain of Dementia Support Systems

When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis, or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems, whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Over the past few years, families have reached out to me for support during incredibly vulnerable times. In one situation, a family approached me specifically for guidance and advocacy.

In another, my role began as a companion and personal assistant for somebody living with...

Singing in Exeter alternative to choir is fun

Following one of our recent tweets, advertising Forever Young Sing for Fun, one local follower retweeted, "Always a pleasure to give you a big shout-out..."

A valuable recommendation considering this individual has nearly 20,000 followers. We can only hope that many of those followers are not local or were away when the retweet went out as we think the limit on the hall is under 200!

Last Monday evening, 7-9pm at St Sidwell's School EX4 6PG, we raised the roof and sang to brilliant backing music with the words projected on the wall. Several of the new singers enjoyed the...

For a number of years, the Service has worked with the charity Smokey Paws to enable local groups and organisations to generously provide the masks to their local fire stations.

Now the RSPCA has donated 68 kits to cover all the remaining fire appliances that do not currently have one, meaning they will soon be used to revive pets in those crucial moments following a fire. These kits - which...

The challenger bank, located in 22 The Strand, hosted a fraud awareness afternoon to educate the local community about the latest tricks and scams and – importantly – how to avoid them. ‘Take Five’ is a banking industry initiative encouraging people to take time to stop, think and check, before making payments and other financial transactions. The initiative comes at a time when fraud is becoming more elaborate, more sophisticated and more plausible; the latest figures show that financial fraud across cards, online banking...

Exeter playing an important part in keeping SW beaches plastic free

Exeter is playing a very important part in keeping the oceans and beaches in the south west clear of plastic. Discarded plastic collected from our coastline is being sent to Exeter City Council’s Materials Reclamation Facility, where it is being sorted, batched up and sent for recycling. The partnership with Keep Britain Tidys’ BeachCare programme and Fathoms Free not only helps rid the sea and beaches of unwanted and damaging materials but also helps keep council tax bills down by raising much needed revenue from the sale of recycled plastic. Cllr Stephen Brimble, Lead Councillor for...
