Next phase of A380 improvements due to start

The latest phase of a programme of repairs on the A380 will start next week.

The work at Ware Barton is due to start on Monday 29 January and is expected to take around two months to complete.

The majority of the work on this section of the road will involve the replacement of the existing waterproofing of the two bridges over the junction, but it will also include the replacement of barriers, reconstruction of the pavement, vegetation clearance and drains will also be cleaned.

Daytime lane closures and 40mph speed restriction will be in place throughout the duration of this work to ensure the safety of site staff and the travelling public. There will also be a 40mph speed restriction on the northbound carriageway for safety when the bridge deck works are taking place in the outside lane (lane two). From Monday 5 February, overnight closures will be needed from 7pm to 6am on weekday (Monday to Friday) evenings. Signed diversions will be in place.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: "The initial reconstruction work on the northbound section of the A380, between Gappah Lane and Wapperwell Cottages, went extremely well and was completed at the end of last year. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption and hopefully this next phase of work will run as smoothly as the previous section."

Councillor Gordon Hook, Devon County Councillor for Newton Abbot South, said: "This is vitally important work, which must be carried out. While it may well cause some short term inconvenience the long term benefits are very clear. I'm pleased the work is to be completed well before the holiday season causes additional congestion problems."

Resurfacing and reconstruction work at Telegraph Hill is scheduled to start with an overnight closure from 7pm to 6am on Monday 12 February. There will then be daytime lane closures with a 50mph speed restriction in place, and full closures overnight from 7pm to 6am on Monday to Friday evenings.

This will enable drain cleaning and vegetation clearance to be carried out, which is expected to take about four weeks to complete.
