Princesshay security team to walk 70 miles for FORCE Cancer Charity

Princesshay security team are challenging themselves to complete a 70 mile walk in 24 hours, whilst raising funds for its charity of the year, FORCE Cancer Charity.

On Thursday 12th July, the security team will start their venture in Dorchester via Abbotsbury, then through to West Bay, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Exmouth, before reaching Princesshay as their final destination. The team are taking part in The Maddox Challenge in memory of a former colleague Paul Maddox, based at another site, who recently lost his battle with cancer.

BRITAIN’S poshest train – where jeans and trainers iare frowned upon – will be calling at Exeter on Saturday (14 July) for a slap-up round trip to Par in Cornwall.

Two women from Exeter who run a coffee morning, and a group that supports families affected by diabetes in the city have scooped volunteering awards from leading charity Diabetes UK. Gillian Epton and Jean Duddridge, who hold a monthly coffee morning in Exeter Cathedral Cafe in aid of the charity, and the Diabetes UK Exeter Snack Pack Group, which organises an array of activities for children with Type 1 diabetes, both received trophies at the 2018 South West Inspire Awards, held at the Castle Hotel in Taunton, Somerset.

Summer of activity for NCS youngsters

More than 500 young people from across the greater Exeter area will be setting out on a summer of adventure as they take part in this year’s National Citizen Service programme.

Improvements proposed to reduce surface water in Exeter

A series of essential improvements to reduce surface water on roads in Exeter are being put to Devon County Council's Cabinet this week (Wednesday 11 July).

Councillors are being asked to approve a proposed £450,000 scheme for the upper Northbrook area of Exeter, which is at high risk of surface water flooding.

Devon County Council has been leading an investigation on the risk of surface water flooding in Exeter, working in partnership with Exeter City Council, South West Water, the Environment Agency and Network Rail to prioritise areas for improvements.

Terminal illness charity, Marie Curie, has opened a new shop in Exeter. The shop on South Street is the first the charity has opened in Exeter and will raise vital funds to help Marie Curie Nurses care for people living with a terminal illness. RSPCA called to help more than a dozen ‘drunk’ gulls

RSPCA staff have been left scratching their heads after a string of call-outs to collect ‘drunk’ gulls.

The animal welfare charity is concerned that the birds have been gaining access to waste products from a local brewery or alcohol producer which has been making them ill.

RSPCA officers Jo Daniel, Clara Scully and Paul Adams have collected a number of birds exhibiting the same symptoms in recent weeks.
