New trustee brings decades of experience in social care leadership to Westbank Community Health and Care

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome Ian Hobbs, a former social worker and social care professional, to its Board of Trustees.

After 42 years working in a range of roles within Devon County Council, Ian is bringing his considerable skills and leadership experience to the third sector. As a Trustee, he is looking forward to helping the team at Westbank to deliver its ambitious programme of interrelated services and to make the changes that will be needed to adapt to the future.

Flamingos tickled pink by revamped exhibit 

Flamingos at the Oakland Zoo are at their flamboyant best thanks to scientists at the University of Exeter.

Keepers at the Oakland Zoo in California wanted to know more about the activity of their flamingos because they seemed quiet and didn’t appear to be venturing into their pool very often.

The zoo called in Exeter flamingo expert Dr Paul Rose, who – along with psychology student Luke Jones – analysed the flamingos’ behaviour and suggested changes to their enclosure.

Organic veg box company Riverford has turned its legendary Pumpkin Day event plastic-free for the first time to reduce its impact on the environment as much as possible.

University of Exeter signs clean energy deal

Universities including Exeter have joined forces to sign a landmark green energy deal.

Under the ground-breaking “aggregated power purchase agreements” (PPA), 20 UK universities will buy £50m of renewable energy from a portfolio of wind farms.

The deal fixes power prices at a competitive rate for the next ten years and will help to ensure that all of the University of Exeter’s electricity continues to come from renewable sources.
