Digital Devon event will offer AI insights

Businesses across the county are being invited to attend a new full-day event in Torquay aimed at helping them better understand digital technology and artificial intelligence.

Organised by Devon Chamber of Commerce, Digital Devon will take place on 9 June at the Riviera Centre, running from 10am to 4pm.

The event will bring together speakers, workshops and exhibitors from major organisations including Microsoft, PwC and Cosmic.

A major step to boost Devon's economy after lockdown is being taken by the county council and partners Exeter College.

A new academy for future skills will be created to offer training for high-tech jobs in engineering, digital, construction and clean growth.

Devon County Council has agreed to purchase the vacant former Flybe Training Academy at Exeter Airport which closed when the airline went into administration. The deal will see Exeter College, the city’s Ofsted outstanding education provider, run the new academy.

A Devon primary school girl is determined to help other children during the pandemic after realising that not all children would be safe at home whilst schools are closed.

Daniela had been enjoying quality family time since schools were shut, but decided to come up with a way to help other children who might be feeling sad and so set herself a fundraising challenge to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Pandemic offers glimpse into a carbon neutral future

Devon’s carbon emissions have reduced by almost a quarter (23 per cent) during the lockdown new data suggests.

The data has been collected on behalf of the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group (DCERG), a group of public, private and voluntary sector bodies working to make Devon carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest.

It forms part of a discussion paper ahead of Friday’s DCERG meeting and suggests that the reduction in road transport and energy use has had an immediate and profound impact on emissions.
