Local authorities fund Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving to help get local people into work and support regional employers to secure the drivers they need

A playful and innovative set of new small-scale arts commissions, designed to harness Devon and Cornwall’s creative talents by showing that ‘home is where the arts is’, have been launched.

Arts and Culture, University of Exeter has partnered with the Exeter Phoenix, Kaleider and Exeter Northcott Theatre to unveil this new initiative to encourage freelance artists across Devon and Cornwall to unleash their creativity - using inspiration found only in their homes.

Devon Air Ambulance will temporarily be responding to patients solely by critical care car but its critical care paramedics will still be able to respond to patients with their specialist skills and equipment. More than 100,000 people have contacted BBC Local Radio’s coronavirus helpline since it was set up two weeks ago.

The Make a Difference campaign was launched to link up those in need of help with those who can provide it.

It is the biggest response the BBC has ever had to a Local Radio campaign.

Make a Difference has already helped get essential items to a terminally ill father of three, find a lift to work for an NHS worker whose car had broken down and stopped a man from getting evicted from his home.

Devon County Council launch COVID-19 Prompt Action Fund to help communities

Devon County Council has launched the COVID-19 Prompt Action Fund to help provide valuable funding to organisations working in communities that have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The scheme, which only launched this week, has had over 80 applications already.

The grants of less than £500 will help voluntary and community groups to tackle the social and economic impacts of the virus outbreak and help those who are most vulnerable in their communities.

A COVID-19 helpline has been launched by the charity Devon Communities Together to provide vital support for parish and town councils and the Devon Village Halls Community Buildings networks as they pull together their resilience plans to help support their communities.

Coronavirus support service flooded with offers of help and support

A support service set up to help people in Exeter during the Coronavirus outbreak has been flooded with requests for help and offers of support.

In the first 36 hours since Exeter Community Wellbeing went live, a combined total of 250 requests for help and offers of support were received.

More than 100 volunteers have come forward to offer their services. These offers of support will be matched with some of the 150 or so people who have requested practical help in Exeter to deal with the outbreak.
