Westbank’s Community Allotment made accessible to all thanks to Kier’s volunteers

Manpower and materials donated to Westbank Community Health and Care by the Kier Group have transformed the charity’s Community Allotment at Exminster into a space that’s accessible to everyone.

Eleven local volunteers from Kier’s Natural Resources Nuclear & Networks division recently worked over a total of about 4 days to create a tarmac access ramp, level the ground and lay a concrete pathway to make the allotment accessible to wheelchair users. The monetary value of the work amounts to approximately £7,000, including labour and materials.

Devon & Cornwall Police are warning residents to stay vigilant following a phone scam involving fraudsters posing as police officers. In one case, an elderly Exmouth resident was conned out of £14,000.

Between 2 and 18 July, police received 12 reports from across the county, including Exeter, Exmouth, Sidbury, Plymouth, Bradnich and Heybrook Bay. Victims were contacted by scammers claiming to be police officers investigating fraud and were persuaded to withdraw large sums of money. A courier was then sent to collect the cash.

28 July 2025 – Bodmin, South West England: Devon & Cornwall Police joined forces with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) in a one-day operation targeting uninsured drivers, coinciding with one of the busiest travel days of the year due to the school holiday rush.

On 16th July staff and residents at Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter dusted off their dancing shoes for the launch of their new Dementia Disco initiative.

Knowing how much their residents love to dance, the activities team at Cumberland Grange care home came up with the genius idea of a dementia-friendly disco.
