Exmouth to host three-evening live music event next summer

A huge music event, which is expected to attract some of the UK’s hottest artists, is coming to Exmouth next summer.

‘Live in Devon’ will take place at the Imperial Recreation Ground, Imperial Road, Exmouth, on three consecutive evenings - Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September 2022. The events are likely to attract more than 15,000 music lovers over the course of the weekend and bring a significant economic boost to Exmouth and the wider area.

The headline artists for each of the shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

Wheelchair user to complete charity marathon in one month for Hospiscare

Chris Long, a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy and a customer of Bluebird Care Exeter, is spending October fundraising for Hospiscare, by partaking in their Marathon in a Month event.

He was inspired to take part after seeing a poster on Exeter’s Quayside during one of his regular outings with his Bluebird Care Exeter Care Assistant. He told the Care Assistant that he would love to take part and signed up.

Chris’s mission is a challenging one. During October, participants must cover 26.2 miles, in their own way and at their own pace.

On the weekend of 25th September , people of varying ages and abilities from Exeter got involved with this year’s Learn to Play Day event. Organised by the charity Music for All, people across the UK travelled to music stores and community centres, to take advantage of a range of free music lessons. Hobbycraft has launched a series of Paint Your Own Ceramic workshops for kids of all ages and painting abilities.

The workshop will be led by one of Hobbycraft’s in-store craft experts, with all money going to its charity partner, Together for Short Lives. The charity helps every child and family living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition get the very best care and support they can, so they can make the most of every moment together.

Former Exeter City Council leader Pete Edwards dies

Former Exeter City Council Leader Pete Edwards has died in hospital following a short illness, the City Council has announced.

He served the city of Exeter as a councillor for 30 years, from 1984 to 1988 in the then Barton ward and then from 1995 to 2019 in the Mincinglake and Whipton ward.

He was Leader of the Council from 2011 until his retirement in 2019. Previously he had served as Lead Councillor for Housing under the leadership of Cllr Roy Slack. He was also Lead Councillor for Environmental Health and Leisure for a short period.
