Watermeadow Grange hosted inspiring public sessions with endurance adventurer Louis Alexander

Watermeadow Grange opened its doors to the local Topsham community for two packed public sessions showcasing the power of mindset and elite mental resilience.

The event, titled ‘An Audience with Louis Alexander, ’ featured the 26-year-old endurance adventurer and three-time world record holder sharing the extraordinary stories behind his global feats.

The talk comes right ahead of his newly announced world-first attempt this July to kayak seven of the deadliest ocean crossings on Earth. This perilous 300-mile journey marks the final chapter of his ‘Trilogy of the Seven...

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning of rain today (Monday February 3).

Outbreaks of heavy rain will be accompanied by strengthening south or southeast winds which may also combine with high tides to increase the risk of coastal flooding in exposed locations.

The public should be aware of the risk of further disruption, particularly to travel.

Charity hopes 2014 will really be the Year of the Horse

As Friday 31 January 2014 marked the beginning of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar, the RSPCA is announcing a huge rise in the numbers of horses rescued and taken in by the charity in England in 2013.

The charity is also highlighting some of the incidents from the past year that made 2013 unlucky for our equine companions.

Figures show that the number of horses taken in or rescued by the charity in England rose by 69 per cent compared with 2012. In 2013, the RSPCA rescued, collected or took in 1,526 equines, compared with 901 the previous year. These horses...

Motorcycle and car involved in A377 Crash

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at the A377 between Sainsburys and A30 Roundabout, St Thomas, Exeter.

The incident involved the collision of a motorcycle and a car and took place at 5.52 on Sunday 2nd February.

One fire appliance from Danes Castle Exeter attended. Fire crews confirmed a road traffic collision involving one car and one motorcycle.

Man survives 60 ft drop in Dawlish

A man in his seventies suffered only ' minor injuries' after his car plowed 60ft over a cliff like underground.

The incident occured at around 2.30pm near The Mount Pleasant Inn in Dawlish Warren today ( Sunday 2nd February).

Emergency services from the Fire Service, the police and the coastal service were called.

Craig Timms, Manager of the pub, said:

" A man aged about 71 plowed through our car park fence in his BMW. It is about a 60ft drop. It didn't affect us at all, but a fence is replaceable! We wish the man the best and hope he has a speedy recovery...

Crews called to blaze at an Exeter home

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a blaze at an Exeter property this afternoon ( Sunday 2nd February).

Two Fire appliances and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Danes Castle attended the incident, which took place at St Germans Road.

On arrival, crews confirmed the property was heavily smoke logged due to a small fire involving the cooker. Crews got to work to extinguish the fire using two Breathing Apparatus and a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan.

The fire was extinguished and the cause is believed to be accidental.

Fire service called to Woodbury crash

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at Woodbury earlier today ( Sunday 2nd February).

Two appliances were mobilised one from Exmouth and Middlemoor following a report to the Fire Service Control Room of a road traffic collision with person trapped.

On arrival at the scene crews confirmed a road traffic collision involving one private car on the public highway with no persons trapped.

Crews made the scene safe.

Elderly woman rescued by Fire Service

An elderly woman has been rescued from a lift today by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Appliances were called to the incident, which occured at 7.46 this morning ( Sunday 2nd February), in Exmouth.

The Fire Service received a call reporting persons stuck in a lift at Douglas Avenue, Exmouth

Two fire appliances from Exmouth attended.

Fire crews released one elderly female, unharmed, from the lift car using small tools.
