Audiences in Exeter can start Christmas in sparkling style as Exeter Philharmonic Choir brings its signature sound to the festive season in the atmospheric setting of Exeter Cathedral.

A brand new initiative aimed at encouraging more schools to introduce their pupils to skiing and snowboarding will run in Devon this April as part of a national programme.

Dartmoor under crime surveillance

Devon and Cornwall Police is teaming up with partner agencies to tackle crime across Dartmoor throughout the summer. Local officers will be part of a multi-agency operation which aims to prevent and disrupt criminals operating in isolated rural areas, particularly at car parks and beauty spots surrounding the national park.

The moor historically sees a seasonal rise in crime in the summer months with an influx of visitors to the region.

Hundreds in SW back dementia research service

The South West is playing its part in the recruitment of volunteers to dementia research studies.

One year on from the launch of a groundbreaking service called Join Dementia Research almost 16,000 people nationally have signed up to this initiative which encourages people to register their interest in taking part in clinical research into this condition.

In the South West 1,110 volunteers have registered with Join Dementia Research service which provides a valuable resource for researchers in their search for potential dementia research studies.

Police are seeking a driver involved in a collision In Bovey Tracey which left an elderly pedestrian with serious leg injuries.

The collision between the 71-year-old woman and a dark-coloured 4x4 happened in Fore Street around 10.30am on Thursday 31 March.

The victim, from the Teignbridge area, was crossing the road near to the junction of Abbey Road, close to Lloyds Pharmacy, when the collision took place.

The male driver went to her assistance and put her in his vehicle, telling witnesses that he would take her home.

Exeter mathematicians recognised as rising stars of research

Two rising research stars at the University of Exeter have been awarded prestigious fellowships from the Medical Research Council (MRC).

Dr Jamie Walker and Wessel Woldman are mathematicians based within the University’s Wellcome Trust supported Centre for Biomedical Modelling and Analysis, and have received substantial grants from the MRC to not only enhance their careers, but also to pioneer world-leading research in their fields.

Today (1 April) marks the start of a bright future for Devon’s libraries as a new and independent organisation operating outside of the County Council. Libraries Unlimited, a staff and community-owned social enterprise, was established with the support of the council following extensive public consultation on the future of the library service. The Home Secretary is actively campaigning to erode the independence of the British Police, claims former Devon and Cornwall police chief Bob Spencer.

An art exhibition examining the importance of bees will be the final exhibition at Spacex’s Preston Street gallery before the organisation relocates to embark on a new way of working.
