Devon’s new High Sheriff, entrepreneur Mark Ansell, has pledged to put Restorative Justice centre stage during his year in office, championing a system proven to support victims of crime and rehabilitate offenders.

Mark is the latest of three generations of his family to serve as High Sheriff of Devon, proudly following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. Zero tolerance to hate crime launches in Devon

Zero tolerance to hate crime is the strong message at the core of the new anti-hate crime campaign being launched across Devon during this year’s national hate crime awareness week, which runs from 8th to 15th October.

The message is loud and clear: all forms of hate crime are completely unacceptable and will be dealt with robustly. Councillors back plans for redevelopment of Exeter bus station

Plans for the multi-million pound redevelopment of Exeter bus station have been approved by councillors. At a special meeting on Wednesday evening members of Exeter City Council’s planning committee backed applications to create a state-of-the art new leisure complex and a new bus station at the site. £100,000 funding to roll-out Community Road Warden scheme countywide

Devon County Council is committing more than £100,000 to its Community Road Warden scheme as it extends the roll-out of the initiative.

As part of a pilot in five parishes and towns across Devon earlier this year, trained volunteers repaired almost 200 minor potholes. The County Council supplied Road Wardens in Bradford and Cookbury, Broadclyst, Clyst Hydon, Plymtree, and Sidmouth, with a simple-to-use pothole repair material, Instarmac, to patch up small potholes in their parishes and towns.

Appeal after opportunistic burglary

Police are investigating a burglary which took place at a flat on Queen Street, Dawlish, between 10pm and 10.15pm on Friday 30 September 2016.

The suspects entered the property through an insecure door and stole a brown bag, similar to the one pictured, and contents from the kitchen table.

The flat was occupied at the time of the incident and it is not believed that the suspects ventured further into the flat.

The bag contained a pair of Specsavers glasses in a black case, a body fragrance, a red and white bandana and miscellaneous paperwork.

Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) has reached the finals of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia-Friendly Awards 2016.

Cathedral drainage project announced

VITAL repairs to the drainage system around Exeter Cathedral begin next week as part of an ongoing project to prevent serious damage to the fabric of the building. Efficient drainage around the Cathedral is vital for taking rainwater away from the stonework and preventing damp and decay. Localised excavations between the North Tower and the West Front of the Cathedral will allow for pipes to be replaced, manholes renewed and other repairs to be carried out. A new road rage survey from the car leasing experts Lease Car has revealed that drivers in the South West of England are likely to experience road rage an average of 8.1 times a month, that’s the highest in the UK.

The survey asked 1,200 people across the UK a series of questions about their road rage experiences and discovered some regions found their time on the road more infuriating than others!

Benefit delays driving people into debt

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has published its advice trend statistics for the first five-months of the financial year. The charity has helped 12% more people with their advice and information when compared to the same period in 2015.

The advice trends over the period were as follows:

Overall, the charity dealt with 14% more debt enquiries. The main increases being:

• 49.0% about bankruptcy and debt relief orders • 27.8% about water arrears • 25.7% about council tax arrears
