Exmouth-based technology firm The EuroTech Group plc has provided the town’s community cadets with sponsorship for new safety boots.

The generous contribution will enable the Exmouth Community Cadets to complete their uniforms and carry out their activities in safety.

The cadets scheme gives Year 10 and 11 students the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities working with the emergency services in the local community with the aim of developing valuable skills for life.

It is run in partnership between Exmouth Community College, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Devon & Cornwall Police. Established four years ago, the scheme has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months with the introduction of a new qualification.

EuroTech Director David Douglas said: “We are pleased to be able to support the Exmouth Community Cadets and the organisations behind the scheme.  This is an excellent way to engage young people in the community and to help them develop to achieve their potential.”

EuroTech, who manufacture printed circuit boards,  is one of Exmouth’s longest serving and best-known businesses, having been in operation in the town for nearly 50 years.

The sponsorship they have provided not only ensures that the cadets are able to work with the best possible standard of kit but also it further cements links within the local community.

Communities Officer Matthew Reece, of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Having worked closely with EuroTech in the past, I had an understanding of their commitment to the local community and to the development of young people within it.

“When I approached them and explained how our cadet scheme worked and the positive steps our young people were taking for their community and their future, Mr Douglas was kind enough to make a contribution towards their efforts by sponsoring the cadets with the provision of their safety boots.

“It is gestures such as these which help us to ensure that our cadets have the correct equipment to carry out their duties in a safe manner whilst also ensuring that they are able to represent our organisations smartly and professionally when undertaking activities within our local community.

“It is a pleasure to see such a well-known and established business recognising the efforts and value that is gained by schemes like the community cadets, and supporting its continuation in such a proactive way.”

In December last year, the cadets took delivery of their new uniform and showcased it at a tri-service carol concert hosted by the Service in December.
