Drone footage captures Iron Bridge refurbishment in Exeter
A bird’s-eye view has revealed the scale of the work recently carried out on Exeter’s historic Iron Bridge.
The Grade II Listed structure, which dates back to 1834, underwent a five-month programme of repairs to protect its cast iron framework. Drone footage taken by the engineering team documented the project from start to finish, showing the bridge’s transformation.
The scheme involved extending the existing concrete carriageway slab to allow for a new waterproof layer to be added to seal the bridge deck before resurfacing it. Expansion joints were replaced, while drainage, signs and lines were also upgraded. Repairs were also made to the bridge’s cast iron elements.
The works aim to preserve the landmark for future generations while maintaining its role as a key route in the city.
