Countryside's outdoor events offer an exciting introduction to nature

Take a walk on the wild side with the East Devon Countryside team and get connected with the great outdoors

The Countryside team spring/ summer events programme is proving popular since it launched in March. Events including; Wildlife safari’s and Easter crafts have been well attended and enjoyed by local families and holidaymakers.

The guide includes a number of exciting new events and partnerships including wild food forages and bat trail walks.

On Saturday 6 May, Countryside team leader (Sites) and Devon home cook of the year finalist, James Chubb, will be running a wild luncheon event.

Learn how to forage for food and enjoy a lunch of gourmet risotto with wild foraged ingredients eaten around the campfire in the heart of Seaton Wetlands nature reserve. Spaces are limited and can be booked online for £12.50 per person.

James said: "Nothing beats food eaten outdoors and it tastes even better when you have gathered, prepared and cooked the ingredients yourself. Join me on Saturday 6 May for a memorable mealtime at the beautiful Seaton Wetlands nature reserve.’’

Later in the month the Countryside rangers will be teaming up with the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project on a walk from Beer to Branscombe. The popular walk takes in stunning scenery of the Jurassic Coast.

On Monday 15 May, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Lizzy Mooney from the Devon Greater Horseshow Bat Project will be helping participants look for evidence of bats and bat habitats and will explain more about the project taking place in Devon. Spaces can be booked online for just £3 per person.
