Construction work begins for new affordable homes near Sandy Park

Construction work at Highgate Edge for 184 new affordable homes in Exeter has started.

Countryside Partnerships, the UK’s leading mixed-tenure developer, is building the new development in partnership with the UK’s leading Social Enterprise, Places for People.

Located on Ikea Way and adjacent to Sandy Park stadium, home of the Exeter Chiefs, the new development has been designed to be energy efficient, with photovoltaic panels on every home, as well as electric car charging points. These smart design features will help to achieve a minimum 10% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standard building regulations.

To encourage healthy lifestyles, a new mixed-use games area is being created, alongside two additional play areas, providing residents with family-friendly outside spaces to enjoy.

The development will also bring a number of wider benefits to the local community, showing a commitment to social value in the local area, this includes financial contributions to local NHS Services and the local GP surgery.

The first homes are expected to be complete and ready for occupation by spring 2024.

Commenting, Peter Sadler, Managing Director of Countryside Partnerships South West, said:

“It’s great to get work underway and to see the delivery of these affordable homes moving forward quickly. Working with Places for People, we’re creating a high-quality new development next to Sandy Park Stadium. The homes have been sustainably designed, and the site itself is close to local amenities, public transport links and the A379, which further encourages a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of living.”

Greg Hilton, Managing Director of Places for People South West Developments, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the start of this project in Exeter, a city which has a growing demand for housing. The development will provide much needed homes for the locals, creating a new community which I am sure will flourish and thrive.  With excellent energy efficiency and plenty of outside space the homes will be highly desirable in Exeter.”
