The average price of a property on Exeter’s most expensive street is more than £1,200,000, according to new data released today by Zoopla, the UK’s most comprehensive property destination.

The Zoopla Rich List 2020, which reveals the city’s ten most expensive streets, shows that Streatham Rise (EX4) is the most expensive street to buy property in Exeter, with average property prices comfortably topping £1,200,000.

EX4, EX1 and EX2 most expensive

The Zoopla Rich List 2020, the definitive list of the costliest streets in Britain based on average house prices, shows that properties in the prestigious postcodes of EX4, EX1 and EX2 occupy all ten places on the list.

Streatham Rise is appealing to homeowners with deep pockets thanks to its proximity to award-winning amenities and great transport links. The street is a short walk from the ‘excellent’ Exeter Cathedral School, attended by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and just a 20-minute drive from the famous Exeter Golf and Country Club. For commuters or leisure travellers, the street couldn’t be more convenient as it is just a ten minute walk from Exeter St David’s train station.

 Supply and demand

News of the city’s ten most expensive streets follows recent data from Zoopla that shows demand for homes in in the Exeter area has experienced phenomenal growth in the last year, rising by 113% since July 2019. The number of homes available to purchase locally hasn’t kept pace with demand however, rising by just 31% in the same period.

Roger Wilkinson, Managing Director at Wilkinson Grant & Co, an estate agency in Exeter, said: “Exeter is an incredible place to live and work, boasting some of the best schools, restaurants and amenities in the UK. It’s natural that homeowners with big budgets are drawn to Streatham Rise and Baring Crescent, which are home to some fabulous properties.”

Gráinne Gilmore, Head of Research at Zoopla, added:  “The Zoopla Rich List 2020 highlights the desirability of property in York, especially at the prime end of the market. The city’s historical landmarks, outstanding schools and fantastic shops, restaurants and bars mean that an address on one of its most expensive streets is worth more than £1,000,000. New working patterns, especially remote working, mean house hunters from all over the country are seeking bigger properties with outdoor space. York has a wide range of these types of properties, not least for those who can pay a premium for their next home.”
