Leading hotel App adds South West City to its destinations

HotelTonight, an app which allows users to book quality hotel rooms at the last minute, had added South West City Bristol to their destination list.

This means that users of the app will now be able to book up a stay in a Bristol Hotel at the swipe of a button on the very day they wish to visit the city.

Ladram Bay Holiday Park near Budleigh Salterton, East Devon, has been voted one of the United Kingdom's top 25 family accommodation providers.

The park, itself family-owned, beat thousands of other parks and hotels to gain a place in the prestigious "Travellers' Choice Awards 2014" run by TripAdvisor.

The Devon Hotels and Restaurants Association has teamed up with the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink to offer accommodation and ticket packages for those travelling to the city. Members of the association including the Mill End Hotel, Dartmoor; the Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth and the Abode Hotel, Exeter are offering visitors a reduced festival ticket price and discounted accommodation for food fans to make the most of their weekend in Exeter.

Travel update

Landslips and destroyed railway lines have been the outcome of this weeks weather. We bring you the latest travel information from National Rail to find out if the situation has improved.

Yeovil Junction - Exeter St Davids

Train routes to Exeter blocked

The South West have experienced yet more damage due to stormy weather with Crewkerne being victim to a landslide.

The landslide, which was reported by Network Rail, means that popular routes in and out of Exeter ( including Exeter to Waterloo) are blocked.

Earlier in the week nearby town Dawlish was affected by the weather after waves destroyed the train line.

Bridgewater and Yeovil routes are also both currently blocked due to this weekend's landslide and continued bad weather.

Members of the Hotels and Restaurants Association are reporting increased sales in January 2014, compared to the same trading period last year. For many January is a month of penny pinching but local hotels are seeing a different trend.

Establishments including the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel; the Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth; Combe House, Honiton and the Best Western Tiverton Hotel have reported positive figures in January with sales up as much as 20% for individual hotels. South West of England to be a region of explorers in 2014

Exploration is the key holiday trend for 2014 as research published recently reveals that two thirds (67 per cent) of those living in the South West of England are keen to experience something new on holiday this year.
