Retired holidaymakers are needed to take part in new research which aims to discover how giving up work has affected their tourism choices.

Academics from the University of Exeter Business School want to collect data on how people holidayed before and after retirement. They hope this will allow experts to better understand how tourism affects the wellbeing of older people, and how retirement leads to changes in the choice of location and holiday type.

A recent study conducted by luxury travel company, eShores, shows that a third of UK tourists have had their belongings stolen while on holiday.

The study asked 1250 holidaymakers information about which destination they have had belongings stolen, what items they’ve had stolen, and the value of their loss. This gave shocking insights into the scale of theft while on holiday, with 58% of the thefts occurring to people while holidaying in Europe.

More trains between Exeter and Exmouth

Great Western Railway (GWR) is running extra trains on Sundays between Exeter Central and Exmouth, from 15 May. Trains will run every half hour through most of the day on Sundays throughout the year, instead of the previous hourly service; with a number extending to Exeter St Davids. All services will call at Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Lympstone Village stations. Dartmoor Rover service marks launch of OkeRail

The summer Sunday “Dartmoor Rover” train service resumed at the weekend, coinciding with the launch of the OkeRail community group.

Members of OkeRail, Great Western Railway (GWR) and Devon County Council were on board the 09.08 service from Exeter St David's to Okehampton yesterday (Sunday 15 May) which, for the first time, displayed the OkeRail logo.
