Crave to open second restaurant in Bristol this Spring

Crave, a well-loved independent restaurant from Exeter, is set to open its second restaurant in Bristol this spring, marking the next chapter for the growing brand.

Following the success of the first restaurant, the team is now preparing to launch Crave @ 52 in one of Bristol’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

“Bristol has been on my radar for a while,” said Sameer. “It’s...

I just can’t resist the temptation to ask the difference between English football and English wine...

Answer: At least our wines can hold their own at international competitions. But that might invite our friends in the Mosel to join in and Germany is having quite enough of a good thing already.

Anyway - sport apart - it’s turning out a perfect summer for Devon’s growing band of vineyards.

The fruit set ( from the Pinot Noir to the red grape Rondo) has been magnificent, and we have built in a week to 10 days of extra ripening for the grapes thanks to the early...

8 Best Foods You Aren’t Eating

As much as we try to eat healthy, there are still a lot of foods that we simply overlook. However, knowing about just a few of them can make your life incredibly healthier. That is why we have decided to show you the 8 best foods you probably aren’t eating.

#1 - Kale

Fortunately, kale is becoming more popular these days. However, a lot of people still refuse to try a dish that includes this vegetable and would rather eat spinach when they are thinking of which green veggie to eat. Now, don’t get us wrong, spinach is an excellent source of iron and vitamins, but did you know...

A Devon conservation charity is challenging people in the city to face the future – by eating insects!

Paignton Zoo is running a bug eating challenge in Princesshay, Exeter tomorrow (4 July) between 11am and 3pm.

Paignton Zoo’s Hayley Gibson said: “People can try bugs including mealworms, locusts, crickets and weaver ants. Anyone who eats one will get a sticker and a certificate!”

But the challenge comes with a serious message. Hayley: “The global population could reach 8 billion by 2025 - current food production techniques are simply not sufficient. We need to feed...

There will be no smoke without fire at the third annual Powderham Food Festival.

It’s Autumn: think fire, succulent barbequed meat, hot chestnuts, slow-cooked pulled pork, roasted pumpkins, fish baked in corn husks, clams scattered onto hot coals, sizzling mussels, ravishing ribs. Outdoor cooking over traditional fire all served up in the beautiful surroundings of Powderham Castle.

Barbecue cooking is taking Britain by storm – chefs all over UK are installing fire pits in their kitchens, giving customers a simple but delicious alternative to more complicated offerings....

Two key local names have joined forces to sell beer for charity this summer.

Paignton Zoo and Bays Brewery are hoping Rhino Ale will raise funds for Critically Endangered black rhinos in Africa.

The beer is being sold in bottles and casks across the South West, with Wetherspoons stocking it in 24 pubs in Torbay, Exeter and Plymouth. The Zoo, a registered charity, will receive 10p per bottle from Bays Brewery and 10p per pint from Wetherspoons. It follows on from Bays Brewery’s successful Great Gorilla Ale last year.

Pete Salmon, Director at Bays Brewery said “We are...

Restaurant review: Byron

Stating they serve hamburgers "as they should be", Byron had a lot to live up to when a colleague and I visted the newly-opened Exeter branch.

We visted Byron on a sunny weekday and it appeared the people of Exeter had defintely heard of the burger joint’s good reputation, with tables full both inside and out. Byron has been in Exeter for less than two weeks, and is the first to open in the South West. There are over 30 Byron restaurants throughout the UK.

The restaurant was created after it’s founder Tom Byng fell in love with the simple burgers he consumed whilst dining...

Unique fundraiser is food for thought

Dining in the Dark, a gourmet fundraising event launched to raise both awareness of visual impairment and vital funds for WESC Foundation – the South West’s specialist centre for visual impairment – is being hosted once again by the Salutation Inn, Topsham, on 11, 12 and 13 November.

The hugely successful inaugural Dining in the Dark event took place on 1 May and was the first of its kind in the region. An intrepid group of diners, including Cllr Rachel Lyons who was Lord Mayor of Exeter at the time, enjoyed a mouthwatering three-course menu specially created by Chef Director of...
