SANDFORD ORCHARDS’ RED ZERO NAMED BEST NO-ALCOHOL CIDER IN THE WORLD

Devon-based Sandford Orchards’ Red Zero has just won gold and been named Best Non-Alcoholic Cider at the World Cider Awards, less than a year after it was launched. This latest achievement follows gold awards from Taste of the West and The Farm Shop and Deli Awards, with undoubtedly more to come.

Hanlons Brewery celebrates double award

The team at Hanlons Brewery had reason to celebrate twice in April having collected two awards at this year’s Tuckers Maltings Beer Festival.

The Festival, organised by SIBA, and now in its 24th Year, showcases the best beers from all over the West Country and beyond. Hanlons’ Port Stout won a Bronze Award whilst newly bottled Stormstay won a Gold.

Having recently been finalists in both the Exeter Living and Express and Echo business awards the team are rightly proud of their performance.

Pret A Manger celebrates University of Exeter opening

Pret A Manger’s first campus shop was officially opened this week by the company’s Chief Executive, Clive Schlee, and University of Exeter’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Steve Smith. The shop, located in The Forum, opened to customers on Friday 22nd April but held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. The team at Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary has been busy testing traditional English recipes to help a food writer with her research for an Oxford Food and Cookery Symposium.

Dr Jan Davison is presenting a paper looking at how offal was not always viewed as food for the poor, but was instead served up for the very wealthy, including the royal court.

Pint of Science Exeter to take local science breakthroughs to city pubs

Experts from the University of Exeter and the Met Office will bring their research out of the laboratory and into city watering holes, as the world's largest festival of public science talks arrives in Exeter.

Pub goers will hear talks on everything from exposing the myths about obesity to hunting for hidden galaxies when 19 local researchers take to the stage as Exeter joins more than 100 cities around the world who will be taking part in a global festival from the 23rd – 25th May.

Devon may traditionally be one of the heartlands of Britain’s dairy industry, but it is now also home to one of the country’s most successful dairy free companies.

Moo Free Chocolates – the creators of the world’s first dairy free chocolate Easter egg – established a factory in Holsworthy last year.
