Olympic cyclist Dani King champions cycling gold standard

Charity Sustrans has urged the government to introduce a minimum standard of everyday cycling education and support for schools in England by 2016 to tackle childhood obesity, a move supported by Olympic cycling gold medallist Dani King.

Local bookworm Christopher Sparks is overjoyed at completing his 100th book to earn a Booktrack certificate and gold badge.

Nine-year-old Christopher, who completed his challenge at Exeter's St Thomas Library in Church Road, enjoys reading all kinds of books. Christow Primary School has been selected to take part in an exciting new national initiative to save energy and cut carbon emissions.

Christow is one of just 40 schools across the country selected to be a Solar School. Devon’s Bikeability programme has hit the landmark figure of having trained 20,000 children in the county in cycling proficiency.

The county council-funded scheme, launched in 2006, is designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.
