Cullompton couple win wedding package worth £4,000

Teenager Daniel Holden, 19, popped the question to his girlfriend, after hearing they had won a £4,000 wedding.

Alice Johns, 18, said yes and the couple are now busy preparing for their 2014 wedding at St Andrew’s Church, Cullompton, to be followed by a reception at the Cullompton Venue next door.

The couple, who have been together for two years, had talked about getting engaged when they entered a wedding fayre prize draw at the Cullompton Venue.

When they won Daniel took action. “As soon as we got home I got down on one knee and asked Alice to marry me,” said Daniel.

“But it’s not official yet as I haven’t got the ring. I had been planning to propose on the 19th November as that’s our two-year anniversary of being together and I will have the ring by then.”

Daniel works in customer services and Alice is a beauty therapist. They have won a package worth £4,000, which includes a free wedding from St Andrew’s Church, a free reception at the Cullompton Venue and voucher contributions towards the day from the Bridal Emporium, the Whole Hog, Aphrodite Cakes, Devon Vintage China, Pete Cox Photography, Culm Valley Florist, the Paper Florist, Chic, Heyford House Spa and the Wedding Guest website.

“Winning this prize is amazing, pretty much everything is organised” said Daniel. “Alice burst into tears when she heard and I was down the pub playing pool. They called me into the bar and started singing 'You’re Getting Married In The Morning' and told me we’d won. This means we’ll be able to have a bigger, better honeymoon.”

Wedding fayre organiser Ro Cross said: “The Cullompton Venue is a beautiful and modern space for receptions, and because it’s great value for money it means couples can stretch their budgets further, making their big day even more special.”
