As we move into the year 2020, is this the year that Exeter City can finally land promotion to League One? The Grecians have put themselves in with a chance of doing so, and the whole city will be behind them should the stay in contention over the coming weeks. There are many big games ahead for the club, and these are likely to decide if they reach League One or not. For those following our club, here are six key dates that will decide whether Exeter City will be promoted or not this season.

#1 Saturday 25th January - vs Colchester (H)

Colchester are on the edge of the playoffs right now, but are one of the form teams in League Two, and certainly pose a threat. At home, regardless of the opposition, you have to be winning games and even if Colchester continue to play well, this is a game that Exeter simply have to win if they are to be promoted this season.

#2 Friday 31st January – Transfer Window Closes

As much as a new player coming in would bolster the ranks, it is vital that Exeter do not lose any of their players during the January transfer window. Some teams may be around and looking at their players after playing well in League Two, but it is vital that this team sticks together as much as it possibly can. The real cherry on the top for fans would no doubt be keeping the squad together and adding a loan player from a higher division to bring in some young, fresh legs to the squad for the final push.

#3 Saturday 1st February – vs Swindon (A)

The current leaders in League Two are Swindon Town, and Exeter travel to face them in February. Swindon have looked very impressive so far this season, and will more than likely still be up there by the time this game comes around. It is away from home, so will be a tough one, but these three points could turn out to be enormous.

This is likely to be a game that attracts interest from many people around the country, with bookmakers taking bets from punters on who they think will come out on top. The bookmakers are newbettingoffers.co.uk will be busy with many big games taking place that weekend, and they will have betting offers for UK players that can take advantage of.

#4 Saturday 21st March – vs Plymouth (A)

There would be nothing sweeter for Plymouth fans that for their team to put a dent into the title hopes of Exeter City. The players have to go there for this Devon Derby and make sure that doesn’t happen, hopefully replicating their 4-0 victory earlier this season. There could well be far more than just pride on the line at this stage in the season, and when you combine the chances of promotion plus this rivalry, this could well be the most important game of the season for Exeter City.

#5 Saturday 25th April – vs Leyton Orient (A)

The final game of the season. Will Exeter be up already by now, will they need this to clinch promotion, or a place in the playoffs? Who knows, but this could be a historic day for the club if things go well as they return to League One!
