Begin 2017 with a laugh at the Comedy Avengers free New Year's Extravaganza show in Exeter.

After a successful first show in December the Comedy Avengers are back at The Hole in the Wall in Exeter for another evening of free live stand up comedy on Tuesday night.

The 'Comedy Avengers' are a coalition of Devon based stand up comedians who are hosting free shows across the South West under including this monthly show at The Hole in the Wall on the second Tuesday of every month.

The same comics appear at each show but will always perform a brand new set so returning...

Record attendances at philharmonic carol concert

Exeter Philharmonic Choir's two annual carol concerts at the city's cathedral saw record attendances this year.

The choir, one of the oldest established choral groups in Britain, is celebrating its 170th season.

Members chose to donate the proceeds of their retiring collection to Exeter Community Initiatives, a charity which runs community projects for vulnerable people in the city. The collection raised over £2,850.

The choir's next concert at the cathedral will be a performance of Verdi's Requiem on March 18th.

Christmas market manager praises another successful year

Exeter’s Christmas market has exceeded expectations this year according to the market manager, as the event came to an end last Sunday.

New companies which set up a stall this year will be returning to the market next Christmas with bigger stalls after this year’s success.

The market’s Facebook page was at around 8,800 likes last year, this year the page is now at around 15,600 likes.

The market manager, Nick Rhodes, said the likes have almost doubled in one year.

The University of Exeter’s a cappella band Semi-Toned is topping their win of a nationwide singing competition by releasing a festive medley.

The all-male group, which recently won the BBC2 primetime show The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain, is today releasing their charity single A Very Semi-Toned Christmas. It features some of the best known and loved hits of the Christmas season, including classics by Bing Crosby, Mariah Carey, Wham! And Elvis Presley.

On Thursday 8th December, Princesshay shoppers were treated to a different kind of carol service by the Exeter Deaf Academy.

Students from Exeter Deaf Academy took to Princesshay to perform carol favourites, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Silent Night, O Come all ye Faithful, Away in a Manger, Frosty the Snowman and White Christmas, in British Sign Language (BSL).
