Australian Mike Jackson will bring his unique ukulele teaching skills to Musicrooms across the country this month - and will be in Exeter on Saturday (11 March).

Mike will be giving free uke lessons to children and adults in store between 11am and 2pm, with a promise that anyone can play the instrument in half an hour.

The author of 10 Uke ‘N Play books and with 37 albums to his name, Mike has been playing and teaching uke for over 60 years.

Born in Lincolnshire, Mike emigrated to Melbourne over 40 years ago, and has since gone on to teach thousands of pupils aged 8-80 how to play and enjoy the uke.

First discovered when Madeiran immigrants took it to Hawaii in the 19th century, by the 20th century Georges Formby and Harrison were both huge uke fans, and Jimi Hendrix had learned to play one before he even picked up a guitar.

Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift are all uke players, and in the 21st century ukulele playing is seeing a massive resurgence in popularity.

Estimates are that ukes are now more popular as a first instrument than the recorder. Portable and fun, children and adults can play quickly with ease.

Children and adults welcome for free lessons in store.
