THEATRE

The Matchmaker
Friday & Saturday, 7.30pm, Manor Pavilion, Sidmouth
Horace Vandergelder decides to take a wife. He employs a matchmaker, Dolly Levi, who subsequently becomes involved with his clerks and young and lovely ladies. Evening performances at 7.30pm Saturday Matinee at 2,30pm. Ticket Prices £10, £5 under 16s.  www.manorpavilion.com

Babe the Sheep-Pig
Saturday, 6pm, West Town Farm, Ide
Illyria returns to the farm to perform Dick King-Smith's glorious, and most appropriate, classic. Gates open at 6pm and the performance starts at 6.30pm. It is suitable for all ages 5-plus, the performance will take place either in the barn or outside, weather permitting, so take blankets and whatever you need to be comfortable on straw bales or grass. Supersonic 70's Music Show

Fairport Convention and Friends in the Park

Veteran folk-rockers Fairport Convention celebrate 45 years on the road with special guests Tarras, 6-piece folk-rock band from the North of England. Gates open 1pm. Music from 2pm until midnight. Isca Voices Concert

ISCA Voices continue to thrill audiences under the expert leadership of musical director Stephen Tanner. Admission is free. There will be a collection for the work of  Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

Spiers & Boden
Sunday, 8pm, Exeter Phoenix
John Spiers & Jon Boden are well known for their involvement as founding members of the big band folk phenomenon that is Bellowhead.  Together they play fiddle, guitar, assorted squeezebox instruments, a stomp box and they both sing – a combination which sounds like a two-man-one-man-band! Devon County Show

Cake and Craft Fair

Exmouth Carnival Committee Spring Fun Day

Numerous stalls selling various goodies, face painting, a bouny castle and entertainment for all the family running throughout the day, 9am-5pm.

Hospiscare Open Gardens
Saturday, 2pm, 12 Sidlands, Sidmouth
This secluded 0.5 acre garden is open to visit for the whole weekend and contains shrubs, herbaceous plants, alpines, roses and vegetables in raised beds, along with sculptures and wood carvings. EXHIBITIONS

The South West Academy of Fine and Applied Art's Annual Exhibition
gloss-Art Exeter, 1 Barnfield Crescent, Exeter
Once again gloss-Art Exeter has the pleasure of hosting this year's annual exhibition of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts (SWAc). Discover a display of over forty members, including some new artists who have recently been invited to join the prestigious organisation. Enjoy surreal work by Jonathon X. Coudrille, incredible portraits by Peter Mallison and the almost fauvist landscapes of Laura Hudson just to name a few. The exhibition runs until 8 June. www.glossgallery.co.uk/events

Catrin Webster: Lived Abstractions
CCANW, The Innovation Centre, Rennes Drive, University of Exeter
The works collected in this exhibition are the outcome of artist Catrin Webster’s Leverhulme Trust-funded residency in the Department of Geography at the University of Exeter, 2012-13.  Over twenty original artworks by Catrin comprise the majority of the show; in addition there are works on show by Dr John Wylie, a cultural geographer based at Exeter who has been collaborating with Catrin through the course of the residency.  Two larger images on show at the exhibition are part of a collaborative initiative by staff and children connected with the Geography Department, done under Catrin’s direction. Open Monday to Friday, 8.30pm-5.30pm, until 9 July.

Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year
RAMM, Queen Street, Exeter
Inspiring wonder at the natural world and highlighting the need for wildlife conservation, the exhibition showcases the winning images from all 11 categories of the competition…including underwater worlds, urban wildlife, plants and more. Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the world’s most prestigious annual wildlife photography competition. It is currently in its 47th year and is open to amateur and professional photographers alike. The event runs until 2 June, 10am-5pm, closed Mondays and bank holidays.  www.rammuseum.org.uk
