After a very wet and windy winter with National Trust rangers pushed to their physical limits to clear fallen trees in time for re-opening, Lydford Gorge is celebrating the arrival of spring and visitors are now able to enjoy this beautiful place in a variety of ways.

A treasure hidden from view yet within the Dartmoor National Park, Lyford is a place for quiet recreation and a home to many birds and mammals such as the otter and brown trout.

Bluebells and wild garlic provide a wonderful scented backdrop for visitors as they stop and enjoy this wonderful oasis and spend time learning all about its birds and wild flowers.

Fay Langston, Visitor Services Officer, said: "Many of our visitors come to see the Whitelady Waterfall and the Devils Cauldron which are both very beautiful geological wonders; but they do not always realise that we also have a hide where they can watch the native birds from close quarters.

"Springtime is a wonderful time to visit Lydford Gorge and we would like to encourage both local people and tourists to learn all about the flora and fauna within this natural habitat."

Free spring flower and bird spotting sheets are available, as well as a bird cam to follow the progress of nesting Great Tits from the Cauldron Tearoom.  For more information on visiting Lydford Gorge, please visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lydford-gorge.
