Candlelit concert brings classical magic to Exeter
Internationally acclaimed chamber orchestra London Concertante will perform in Exeter Cathedral on Friday 5th September at 7.30pm, offering an atmospheric candlelit concert of classical favourites.
The evening’s programme includes Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro overture, Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons — three of the most enduring and beloved works in the repertoire.
Renowned violinist Simon Hewitt Jones will lead the ensemble as soloist. His career spans UK and international festivals, orchestral collaborations in the Middle East, and recording work for major film and TV soundtracks. His performance of The Lark Ascending, with its hauntingly lyrical violin line, promises to be a highlight of the evening.
Founded over 30 years ago, London Concertante has built a reputation as one of the UK’s leading chamber orchestras, praised for their accessible and emotionally rich concerts. The group is especially known for its ability to appeal to newcomers and seasoned classical fans alike.
Artistic Director Chris Grist said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be performing in Exeter, bringing this magical candlelit concert to such a historic and beautiful venue. The combination of a breathtaking setting, enchanting candlelight, and an outstanding soloist – supported by our orchestra – promises an evening of pure musical magic.”
Set in the awe-inspiring surrounds of Exeter Cathedral, and lit by the warm glow of candlelight, the concert offers an unforgettable cultural experience right in the heart of the city.
