Exeter School is welcoming three authors to school for World Book Day.

To celebrate the theme of Imaginary Worlds, pupils in Exeter Junior School will be carrying out story telling workshops with Katy Cawkwell on Thursday 4 March.

Storyteller Katy creates performances for adult, family and school audiences, based on traditional source material and has worked regularly in a wide range of schools, museums and other organisations, including Royal Opera House, English National Opera, The Barbican, The British Museum, The Museum of London and The National Gallery.

Upper Sixth Biology groups at Exeter School experienced gene technology workshops thanks to a visiting team from Exeter University Medical School.

Pupils used restriction endonucleases to digest plasmid DNA and then separated the fragments using gel electrophoresis.

The fragments were fluorescently labelled so could be seen using a UV lamp.

Exeter pupils commended by Goethe Institut

Pupils from Exeter School’s Year 9 German classes took part in a variety of competitions on the theme of presents organised by the Goethe Institut in the run-up to Christmas.

Two groups of pupils were commended for their entries: one group wrote the speech bubbles for a comic strip and won sunglasses; the other recorded a story and won earphones.

Both groups also received pencil cases with a variety of goodies inside.

Recent budget cuts have proposed a threat to science in schools and the science industry as a whole. This will have a knock on effect to the accessibility of Science focused careers. British Biology Olympiad success for Exeter pupils

Ten Exeter School pupils have been awarded medals in the demanding British Biology Olympiad in which over 7,000 pupils took part, with one Upper Sixth pupil qualifying for the next round. Third of SW parents want their children to have a professional career

A third (33 per cent) of South West parents want their children to have professional careers, a poll from Action for Children has revealed with two thirds (65 per cent) wanting their children to go to university once their compulsory education is completed.

The results are from a survey of over 2000 parents across the UK, with the South West subsample showing that the second most popular sector behind professional was public services (11.7 per cent).
