Exeter Students Kick Off Year of Reading with Top Author

Year 8 students from West Exe School marked the start of the National Year of Reading 2026 with an inspiring live session from children’s author Tom Palmer.

During the event, students heard about Tom’s writing journey, gained insights into his storytelling process, and learned how to turn their own passions and interests into engaging stories. The session encouraged confidence, creativity, and a love of reading and writing among pupils.

Exeter School celebrates excellent A-level results

In the year that Exeter School commemorates its 20th year of full co-education, pupils, parents and staff are celebrating an excellent set of A Level results, with a 100% pass rate.

Thirty-seven pupils scored three or more A* or A grades, with over a quarter - 26% - of all results at A*. 58% of all grades were A* or A, with 82% at A*, A or B.

Head Boy Ben Hayes scooped an A* and two As, securing his offer to read Medicine. Talented sportsman Ben represented the school in the 1st cricket, rugby and hockey teams.

Colyton Grammar School students excel at A-level

Students from Colyton Grammar School (CGS) have again achieved excellent A-level results, far outstripping the national average for A and A* grades.

Some 65.9% of students achieved A and A* grades, compared with the national average of 26.4%. Overall, 86% achieved grades from A* to B.

Exeter Mathematics School students achieve outstanding A-level results

Students at the South West’s unique school for talented mathematicians have achieved some of the best A-level results in the country – setting them on the path towards becoming the much-needed engineers and scientists of the future.

Exeter College has been named national STEM FE College of the Year and has received a prestigious award celebrating excellence in teaching in STEM.

Leading the way– nationally, in the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics Exeter College, has received the Further Education College of the Year ENTHUSE Celebration Award from STEM Learning.

Painting by Exeter pupil triumphs in CPRE Devon’s county-wide primary school competition

A picture by young artist Ava Perkins from Clyst Heath Nursery and Community Primary School in Exeter has won first prize in this year’s ‘My Outdoors’ competition, organised by the Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

The judges were so impressed by eight-year-old Ava’s painting entitled Dartmoor that they awarded her the title of ‘individual winner’ in Key Stage 2.

A new campaign has been launched by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) designed to ‘smash stereotypes to bits’ as new research suggests that there is still a disparity between boys and girls, as well as other demographic groups, considering a career in STEM.

Primary school pupils to re-enact famous day in Devon’s history at Killerton

Sixty-seven children from Year 5 at Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS) will be taking on the challenge of re-enacting a famous day in Devon’s history when they perform Gertrude’s Garden Party in the house and grounds of National Trust Killerton on 14 and 15 June.

The 9/10-year-olds will recreate a day in the early 1900s when a large number of people attended a garden party, held by lady of the house Gertrude Acland.
