Find World Book Day costumes for free in Devon libraries

Libraries Unlimited is partnering with Recycle Devon to bring World Book Day costume swap rails to 15 libraries in Devon. World Book Day 2026 is Thursday, 5th March and library swap rails are running from 16th February to 8th March. Customers are invited to donate outgrown, unwanted children’s costumes in good, wearable condition. Costumes will be available to take home for free!

Pupils get active on their journey to school

School children in Exmouth and Exeter are being encouraged to get active on their journey to school over the coming weeks.

Devon County Council and Sustrans are working in partnership through the Access to Education programme to get more young people in the Exeter, Exmouth, Newton Abbot and Totnes to walk, cycle or take public transport to school to help tackle congestion. The scheme is being piloted by eight local authorities, led by Devon County Council.

Cubs clean up at Trinity Hill

1st LYM Valley Cubs kindly offered their services to the local community on Sunday 9 June when they carried out a sponsored Litter Pick on the Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve. A new perspective on art that touches all the senses

Exeter School is to exhibit artwork produced by WESC Foundation pupils and students for the second year running. An exhibition of sensory artwork produced by visually impaired artists will be held from 18-21 June, 10am – 3pm, in the Andrews Hall to which all are invited, beginning with a private view on Monday 17 June from 6-7.30pm. Exeter primary leads the way for faith schools

An Exeter primary is leading the way for Roman Catholic schools in the region by converting to academy status.

St Nicholas Catholic Primary became an academy this month, leading the way for other Catholic schools in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.

Libraries across Devon are encouraging residents to ‘think differently’ this month as part of a project to inspire creativity.

A series of events and activities associated with experiment, discovery, play, learning and reflection will be held throughout June aimed getting people to try something new.

Praise as high expectations help adult learners achieve their goals

Devon County Council’s Adult and Community Learning Service has been praised by independent education inspectors for the quality of the teaching and support it offers its learners.

Ofsted say outcomes for learners using the service are good, with rising success rates on courses leading to accreditation and higher level qualifications, as well as those designed to develop people’s personal and social skills, with “many learners making substantial gains in their confidence and self-esteem” say inspectors.

Devon agrees cash to help secure UTC site in Newton Abbot

A £200,000 cash boost to help the new University Technical College find a home in Newton Abbot was agreed today by Devon County Council’s Cabinet.

The capital grant will support the UTC in winning funds from other partners to secure its preferred site.

The £9.7 million college will offer a new way of learning for up to 600 young people aged 14 to 18.

It will focus on engineering, water and the environment and already has the backing of a number of local businesses including Centrax, South Devon link road contractors Galliford Try and South West Water.
