Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Aldi donates 6,300 meals to Devon's charities over the festive period

Charities in Devon have helped Aldi donate around 6,300 meals to people in need this Christmas Eve.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and food banks to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on 24th December.

Around 210 tonnes of food were donated throughout the UK, with more than 500,000 meals donated and more than 750 UK causes benefitting from the initiative in total.

An app-based ride hailing business donated £250 worth of toys and goodies ahead of the festive season to the Exeter Salvation Army as part of its Christmas Present Appeal.

Taylor Wimpey Exeter has helped to feed and house vulnerable people across Devon this Christmas by pledging £3,000 worth of support to three county charities.

Staff chose to give £1,000 each to foodbanks in Exeter and Plymouth, as well as to St Petrock’s, Exeter's charity for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed.

Happy Christmas to Hospiscare as Ottery fundraiser smashes target

The fundraising target for Rusty Pig’s ‘Ho Ho Hospiscare’ draw was totally smashed after the local community in Ottery St Mary and surrounding villages showed support for the event.

The initial aim was to raise £500 but by the night of the draw the total had reached £2300. And there was an extra surprise to come with and additional donation of an extra £250 from PASC, an organisation providing support for self-catering businesses, bringing the final total to an amazing £2,550 - equating to a whopping 400 percent increase!

Exeter’s Tesco stores have joined a city-wide effort to contribute food and gifts to children and families in critical need of support this festive season.

Topsham based Darts Farm is working with Exeter Foodbank and seven-year-old schoolgirl Sienna Littley to provide 70 ‘Christmas Feast Boxes’ to families that need it most in the local community this festive season. Sienna, has raised a colossal £2,100 from selling her homemade ceramic Christmas decorations, and the team at Darts Farm have match funded this with some help from customer donations and supplier gifts to bring the total to an incredible £4,200.

It was “hi-ho hi-ho” all the way as a collection of ‘elves’ cycled, jogged and walked to work at Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary in memory of their colleague Rob Gillingham who passed away from a brain tumour earlier this year.

They were fundraising for Brain Tumour Support, a charity that helps those affected by any type of brain tumour, not just patients, but also their families, friends and carers.
