Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

Students and teachers visited Exmouth RNLI on 22 October, one month on from when they raised money to remember Harry Patch and the role he played in World War one. Students raised £360.64 from a cake bake, poetry writing and creating a montage portrait of Harry Patch from a number of photos of him as a young soldier.

Harry Patch was the last surviving soldier known to have fought in the trenches of the first World War and briefly the oldest man in Europe. He fought at the Battle of Passchendaele and was injured in the groin when a shell exploded overhead on 22 September 1917. It...

Charity’s members save on eating out at Buffet City

An Exeter restaurant is offering members of Devon charity Devon in Sight a tasty 25 per cent off the cost of their meals.

South West Communications Group’s directors Sarah Flowers and Brian Lodge have returned from climbing 5,500 metres to one of the peaks of the Annapura range in the Himalayas to raise more than £3,000 for the Exeter Foundation

Exeter Homelessness Charity awarded £16K grant

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has awarded a £16,000 grant over two years to St Petrock’s homelessness charity based in Exeter.

St Petrock’s helps people who are homeless, or vulnerably housed, lead more settled and fulfilling lives. The charity offers a range of emergency support, accommodation, prevention and educational services aimed to assist individuals back into healthier and more positive lifestyles.

Waitrose partners with FareShare to ease food poverty

Waitrose has announced a major partnership with the food charity FareShare, which will see even more of the supermarket’s surplus food go to help the most vulnerable members of local communities.

FareShare accredited charities will now be able to collect surplus food directly from their local Waitrose branches to help those most in need.

This national announcement builds on Waitrose’s existing partnership with London-based charity Esther Community Enterprises (ECE) who also take surplus food from Waitrose for donation within local communities.

Dozens of free-styling kayakers will be flipping over Exeter's Flowerpots Weir in Wild West costumes this Saturday, 20th October. The freestyle and boater competition, nicknamed the Potsrodeo, is run by Exeter University canoe club and will be in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Teams from all over the UK will be competing.

The Forum at the University of Exeter has been chosen to host BBC Children in Need in the South West on Friday 16 November 2012.
