Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

Youngsters get boost from Exeter City legend's charity

An Exeter-based youth football team has received a wonderful boost thanks to the generosity of a local charity established to mark the life and achievements of one of Exeter City's best-loved players.

The players and supporters of Central FC are celebrating at the news that they have received a £495 grant made by the Adam Stansfield Foundation. Help to give young people a sporting chance with the Lord's Taverners

The Lord’s Taverners charity is delighted to be hosting a rugby sporting dinner on 17 April at the Great Hall, Exeter University in order to raise money to give young people a sporting chance.

The evening has a wonderful line-up of speakers taking part, including Warren Gatland (pictured), Will Greenwood, Scott Quinnell and Paul Ackford and the audience will have a chance to ask questions in a unique Q&A.

A spectacular evening of fashion and pampering was enjoyed by guests on Thursday 14 March at gloss-Art Exeter. The evening was organised by Shipman Financial Planning, which raised £850 from ticket sales in aid of Hospiscare.

Exeter Barman in London Marathon fundraiser for mental health

After five years of trying to get a place on the Virgin London Marathon, Exeter barman Iain Curr, who works at the Great Western Hotel near St David's Station in Exeter, was running out of time to realise his dream before a self-imposed deadline.

He says: “One of my main aims in life was to run a marathon before the age of 40, and I celebrate that milestone on 25th July this year.” Now he’s on track to complete his ambition, having qualified for a charity place to run in the world's biggest marathon on 21 April to raise money for Mind - The Mental Health Charity.

Steve smashes record on charity walk

East Devon businessman Steve Hartland broke his own record by raising more than £350 in aid of charity when he took part in this year’s Hospiscare Men’s Walk.

Steve, from Drakes Avenue, Sidford, who runs Marla Custom Blinds of Sidmouth, took part in this year’s event in memory of his father-in-law Bill, who was cared for in his local hospice in his final weeks.

SAKS Hair Salon presents more than £2,500 to Bramble Ward

Staff and patients at the children’s ward of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital enjoyed a visit from a local hair salon when they presented a cheque for more than £2,500.

SAKS Hair Salon, in Exeter’s Princesshay, raised the money for Bramble ward during their launch party. They chose the children’s oncology department at the RD&E because it is a charity close to a SAKS customer’s heart.

ECFC running club celebrates 10K success

Seven members of Exeter City FC’s running club are celebrating after completing their first event as a team. All the runners - some of whom have only been running a few months - completed the AgeUK Wrap Up and Run 10K race, which started in Princesshay and finished on the Quay on Sunday, in under 70 minutes, which surprised one member, Bernadette Coates.

Exeter Family Friendly raises more money for charity

Local healthcare and protection insurer Exeter Family Friendly went to work in style on Thursday 28 March to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.

Staff members got into the spirit of ‘Wear a hat day’ by donning hats of all shapes and sizes, raising an impressive £250 in the process.
