Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

St Petrock's shortlisted for Guardian Charity Awards

The Guardian Charity Awards 2013 shortlist, announced today, has St Petrock’s, Exeter’s charity for people who are homeless, among its list of successful charities. Five of these charities will find out in October whether they will share the £25,000 prize money and other prizes.

Crediton woman knits 400 ducks for ELF

When Crediton volunteer, Lynne Cooper knitted her first duck for Exeter Leukaemia Fund back in March 2012, she had no idea that her creation would go on to be a global adventurer and that she would knit 400 more! Police Officers to cycle from Exeter to London in charity bike challenge

A group of 21 police officers will be cycling from Exeter to London in aid of a local cancer charity this weekend.

The men will start their challenge from police headquarters in Exeter at 4am on Sunday 15 September and should reach their destination by tea time.

The 170-mile ride, which has been organised by PC Dean Drury and PC Chris Rennie, is expected to take around 12 hours with a few stops on the way.

The police officers, based all around Devon and Cornwall, aim to raise over £500 for the FORCE Cancer Charity in Exeter.

Over 60 guests joined Brewin Dolphin Exeter and Chartered Accountants Francis Clark at a charity Cricket Match at Sidmouth Cricket Club, in aid of their joint charity of the year; The Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.

Guests enjoyed a BBQ and a cask of ale, donated by Otter Brewery and sold for the charity, while they watched the two teams from Brewin Dolphin and Francis Clark compete on the field. There was a charity raffle on the evening with the whole event raising over £500 for the charity.

Government supports Will donation campaign

The government has lent its support to encourage people to leave money to charity in their wills.

As part of this week’s Remember A Charity in your Will campaign the Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd will call on UK solicitors to raise the topic with clients.

The joint letter from the minister and Remember A Charity will accompany a nationwide poster campaign and social media campaign to raise public awareness.

Already supporting the campaign are the Co-operative Legal Services which will be promoting charitable bequests to customers in the process of writing...

Devon Wildlife Trust joins legacy campaign

Veteran journalist and newsreader, Angela Rippon, will be joining The Wildlife Trusts in support of this year’s Remember A Charity Week (Mon 9 – Sun 15 Sept 2013).

As one of 140 charities taking part in a series of events around the UK, The Wildlife Trusts are urging people making a Will to take a moment to consider including a gift to charity.

Devon Wildlife Trust is asking supporters to think about leaving a gift in their Will to help wildlife. The Trust’s Penny Mason said:

Exeter Enterprise Rotary Club Summer News

More than £500.00 was recently raised for Home-Start, the Exeter-based national family support charity, at a Ritz styled tea party held at Badgers-Silverton, organised by members of The Rotary Club of Exeter Enterprise. The Scottish dancers troup performed superbly to the delight of the assembled guests and of course the weather was also great.

Club members would also like to thank everyone who gave up their time to support and attend this event, especially Nigel and Claire Harvey for the loan of their beautiful garden and their generous hospitality.
