Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

E.ON seeking to fund local causes

E.ON is calling for members of the public to nominate causes in Exeter to win funding to run projects.

Local community centres which need to improve their energy efficiency and schools or charities looking to add a spark to the area through energy education, can all apply for funding.

Applications for the E.ON Energy Action Fund can be submitted for a range of energy related improvements and activities, from appliances and insulation to educational events. Priority will be given to projects focused on reducing energy use and renewable energy.

An Exmouth Hospiscare shop is looking for creative and energetic people to join its team of hard working volunteers.

Volunteering is a great way for people, especially school leavers and college students, to gain some work experience and learn a wide range of skills to add to their CV’s for future employment.

The charity shop, situated in the Magnolia Centre, Exmouth, is currently manned by a friendly team of 12 volunteers aged between 30 and 82.

Local charity, Hospiscare is embarking on its first overseas challenge, taking people off the beaten track into one of the most unusual and exotic, natural environments on the planet – the Sahara Desert.

Princesshay is collaborating with Radio Exe this festive season to support its Operation Christmas campaign. Operation Christmas encourages shoppers to buy an extra gift which will be donated to Princesshay’s local charity of the year, WESC Foundation.

Pyjamas and ping pong for Pudsey at Exeter Deaf Academy

College students will be hosting a range of events to raise money for this year’s Children In Need including staff vs student table tennis.

More embarrassment for the staff is on offer with a “Whose that Baby?” competition and pin the tail on the donkey where the donkey includes staff members faces. Students will be giving hairdressing, manicures, wax styles and hand massages. Other fundraising events include, bake sale, Wii games and a fun run.

Big Breakfast raises big bucks

Gilbert Stephens LLP held a charity breakfast fundraiser at Graze Cafe, Sidmouth, for FORCE Cancer Charity and raised over £450 for the cause based in Exeter.

FORCE is the solicitors nominated charity of the year and around 40 people tucked in to help raise funds for the charity which helps support local people affected by cancer.

Christmas joy for poverty-stricken youngsters

Global workplace provider Regus in Exeter is supporting a Christmas campaign which sends present-filled shoeboxes to needy children in developing and war torn countries.

The Regus centre is a local drop off point until the 18th November for the 2013 “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox appeal.

Run in conjunction with the Samaritan’s Purse charity, the appeal involves filling shoeboxes with toys and gifts to send to children overseas in refugee camps, orphanages, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods.

Exeter singer songwriter Charlotte Ward is to perform at a concert in tribute to murdered soldier Lee Rigby. Over £8,000 has been raised for a trust fund for Lee Rigby's 2 year old son Jack and will be handed over to his trust fund at the event in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, next Saturday.

Charlotte was spotted by organiser Gary Gardner, one of the judges for the Open Mic UK competition: "He came to find me straight after my performance and asked me to play at the concert. It's such a privilege".
