Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Women in Exeter are being urged to grab their last chance to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Westpoint Exeter as there is just one week left until registration closes. We’re going cake crazy as we prepare for the Big Devon Bake Off – cakes are being found all over the Exeter hospice!

Whilst strolling in the garden our Hospiscare chaplain Nigel found two cakes tucked in a tree, housekeeper Wendy found them everywhere, ward secretary Denise discovered her desk smothered in creamy cupcakes, as did receptionist Sharon.

Hospiscare patient Lily who was having a cuppa in the day centre, was surprised to discover cakes had suddenly appeared on her chair, even the goldfish bowl in reception did not escape.

Exeter CAB launches ‘Click or Call’ service

Leading local advice charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau has announced the launch of a new ‘Click or Call’ advice and information service.

The charity is suggesting that clients with access to the internet first click the on-line advice and information resources and factsheets available at www.citizensadvice.org.uk

The website is available 24 hours a day. A pilot webchat service has also been launched as part of the new service, with plans for an email service also being developed.

Golfers lined up in the bright sunshine to take part in Exeter’s popular Marnie Burgoyne Memorial Golf Day.

Nearly 50 teams enjoyed a great day out and raised cash for us. The Exeter tournament is sponsored by John Burgoyne, who runs Burgoynes Estate Agents and the trophy is presented in memory of his mum, Marnie Burgoyne, who was one of the original Hospiscare fundraising committee members.

Our Hospiscare nurses cared for Marie in her own home and for the last ten days of her life they looked after her in the hospice.

Sponsored cycle raises £2,500 for Hannahs

Staff from LHC’s Exeter and Plymouth design studios have raised over £2,500 for one of the UK’s oldest charities, Devon based Hannahs.

The team of architects and urban designers cycled 58 miles and climbed 3750 feet of hills on Sunday, raising money towards a new £11,000 all-terrain wheelchair for the charity.

The money’s in for charity swim

LED are pleased to announce the grand total raised for the Force Cancer Charity Swim in February is over £5,138 with money still coming through!

Earlier this year swimmers across LED's five swimming pools were invited to take part in the Force Cancer Charity Swim where swimmers were asked to take part in either a 14 or 28 mile swim over the course of the month.

Fifty swimmers took part in the challenge to raise money for this local charity that has played a vital role in local cancer services for the last 26 years.

Mole Valley Farmers support Live Below the Line

Mole Valley Farmers’ ( www.molevalleyfarmers.com ) Head of Retail Marketing Andy Skarzynski has successfully taken (and survived!) the Live Below The Line’s five day challenge, subsisting on no more than 50p’s worth of food and drink a day.

The £250 raised by Andy will go to the Save A Cow ( www.sendacow.org ) charity which Mole Valley Farmers have supported from its inception, 27 years ago.

Samaritans praise John Lewis

The chair of the local branch of Samaritans says she is delighted with the contribution to the charity made by the Exeter John Lewis store.

“We’re enormously grateful to John Lewis for a really generous donation of £1,020” explains Bridget Neligan, chair of Exeter Mid & East Devon Samaritans.

“Samaritans relies entirely on voluntary donations - we receive no grants and no official funding - so we’re extremely grateful for each contribution. I would also like to thank the shoppers who chose our charity when they visited the store” she says.
