Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Jo Pavey to open new day hospice in Honiton

We are thrilled to announce that Exeter athlete Jo Pavey will officially open our new £1.2m Kings House Day Hospice in Honiton next month.

Jo, who grew up near Honiton, says she is delighted to open the new centre which provides much needed support to terminally ill patients and their families living in East Devon and which is already oversubscribed.

Glynis Atherton, Hospiscare chief executive, said: “Jo lives locally so we are thrilled she has agreed to open Kings House which is proving so popular with local people.”

Soul Traders show off their crazy legs

Devon band Soul Traders showed off their crazy side prior to their recent gig and gave a ‘leg up’ to support cancer.

Lead singer Matt Byrne, who has survived tongue cancer never thought he would sing again when he was diagnosed with cancer six years ago.

The father-of-three from Exeter is rallying men, women and children in Devon to Stand Up To Cancer this October. The band also felt the sad loss of their friend and fellow singer Lara Schmidt who died from cancer in July 2014.

Families for Children receive £1,000 from local Freemasons

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from around Devon gather to give support totalling £40,000 to local organisations who are in need of assistance, among which this year included Families for Children who support adopted children and their families throughout the South West.

A group of intrepid Exeter Chiefs supporters will be raising money for the Exeter Foundation by cycling from Exeter to Bordeaux.

The 485 mile route of the Exeter Rugby European Cycle Challenge will take 6 days to complete, beginning at the home of the Exeter Chiefs, Sandy Park on January 10th 2016 and finishing at the Stade Andre Moga to watch the Chiefs take on Bordeaux Bègles in the European Champions Cup.

Golf tournament raises £4k for SW Multiple Sclerosis Centre

More than £4,000 was raised at a charity golf day held in aid of South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre.

The event, sponsored by Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants and Thomas Westcott Business Recovery, saw 22 teams of four, made up of professional contacts and clients, battle it out at Teignmouth Golf Club.

In all £4,100 was raised through a combination of entry fees, fun golf-themed events, raffles and an auction.

As in previous years all the money was donated to the South West MS Centre in Clyst Heath, Exeter.

Rainbow Living has joined more than 1,000 UK charities and businesses as an official partner of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving at the start of the festive season.

Royal visit celebrates Headway's move

Brain injury survivors from across Devon and Torbay were delighted this week to meet Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex at a special event with local brain injury charity Headway Devon.

During the visit, The Countess of Wessex toured the XCentre – which is the headquarters of Headway Devon as well as the charity’s Exeter-based day centre for people with brain injuries – speaking to people affected by brain injuries and supporters of the charity.

Volunteers needed as FORCE shop re-opens

Another part of the FORCE Cancer Charity shop in Exeter is all set for a spooktacular opening on Halloween.

The popular Heavitree hub for bargain hunters closed in August for essential repairs and refurbishment.

Mole Valley Farmers has announced that it will continue its support to the farming charity Send a Cow when it hosts four in-store gardens at its South Molton, Holsworthy, Yeovil and Cullompton branches.

They will be built during the week of 2 November by children from local schools to include Bishop Nympton Primary, Clawton Primary and St Michael’s Academy and will form part of Send a Cow’s ‘Planting Hope’ appeal.

Lloyd’s Kitchen and Heart raise cash for Honeylands

Independently owned Lloyd’s Kitchen joined forces with Heart to help raise money for Honeylands Children’s Charity.

The Global ‘Make Some Noise’ campaign organised by Heart, attracted 50 diners and four competition winners to Lloyd’s Kitchen.

Restaurateur Lloyd Gardner hosted the event donating a delicious three-course dinner, prepared by resident Chef Graeme Murfin, for each guest with all monies going to the charity.

Breakfast presenters Matt and Caroline were on hand to entertain the guests and help out in the kitchen.
