This September (Saturday 12) Devon Air Ambulance is launching a new fundraising challenge to bring communities together, explore Devon's beautiful landscapes and help raise vital funds to keep its service responding.

The Devon Air Ambulance Cycle Challenge is the perfect day out for anyone who loves being outdoors on two wheels. Whether a confident cyclist who likes a challenge or someone who prefers a sociable weekend ride with friends, there's a level for everyone.

Chief Executive Greg Allen, himself a keen cyclist, said: "We are very excited to be launching our first ever Devon Air Ambulance Cycle Challenge!

"The Challenge is all about having fun while doing something that makes a meaningful difference. Take your time, chat with fellow riders, enjoy the landscape, and experience the buzz of being part of a great community.

"We expect this to be an established and regular future fixture in the Devon and UK cycling event calendar.  Critically, with exciting routes for all abilities, we will be able to raise vital funds to continue delivering our lifesaving services across the community here in Devon."

Starting at Winslade Park, Clyst St Mary, the challenge takes in three separate routes:

The Legend: A 100-mile route taking cyclists up to an elevation of over 300 meters across East Devon and over the Blackdown Hills in an expansive figure 8, heading out past Ottery St Mary and on towards Fivehead, returning via Corfe, Hemyock, Cullompton and Broadclyst before returning to the Clyst St Mary start point.

The Heroic - a 50+ mile route which takes cyclists from the Winslade park start point in a large loop, culminating at Churchinford, before looping back via Bradninch towards Winslade with a peak elevation of around 300 meters incorporating the Blackdown Hills.

The 30-mile Explorer route loops up to Ottery St Mary, back through Bradninch and Clyst Honiton before returning to the start point in Clyst St Mary.

Each challenge ends at a vibrant, family‑friendly event village at Winslade Park where riders and supporters will assemble to celebrate their achievement, refuel with tasty food, browse the stalls and replenish with fellow participants after a great day in the saddle enjoying some beautiful Devon scenery.

Greg Allen added: "Every mile you pedal helps keep our highly-skilled air ambulance crews responding to patients in urgent need across Devon. By taking part, you’re not just joining a fantastic cycling event — you’re directly supporting lifesaving missions every day of the year."
