Family event celebrates all that is great about Britain

STUNNING manor house Bridwell Park will be opening its doors to the public this September, as part of a two-day family event to celebrate all that is great about the UK.

The Great British Day Out, which will feature music, entertainment, stalls and even survival workshops, will be taking place at the stately home in Uffculme over the weekend of September 17 and 18.

It is the first time in its 240-year history that the Georgian property, which is the family home of Lord Ivar Mountbatten, has opened its doors to the public for an event of this kind.

Jo Macaskie of Miss Ivy Events, one of the organisers of the event, said: ‘With so much doom and gloom in the press at the moment, we felt it was important to celebrate all that is great about Great Britain. Bridwell Park is the perfect venue for such a positive event, and we can’t wait to see it being used in this way.’

And the house is going to be totally transformed for the weekend. A vintage tea party will take place throughout the weekend in the conservatory, there will be live bands, as well as a multitude of food stalls.

Outdoor survival specialists Survival Wisdom will be offering workshops on how to survive in the wild.

Richard Psyhorn of Survival Wisdom said: ‘We love taking our survival workshops out to events such as this one, and proving to people of all ages, that survival skills and tactics can be relevant in everyday life, just as much as in wilderness situations. It’s an exciting event, and we can’t wait to come along.’

There will be workshops for all ages, including kite-making, making balloon powered vehicles and decorating cupcakes. And for the younger members of the family, face painting, games and miniature ponies will all be on hand to provide entertainment throughout the weekend.

All workshops and activities are free, and the event is just £6 for adults and £3 for children. Family tickets are also available for £15. There is plenty of parking which is free.
