Lightfoot, the first connected car technology company to reward its community of better drivers, has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards that celebrate the positive impact of technology in the fleet sector.

The Exeter-based business has made it the finals of both Business Car’s Green Award, and Brake’s Fleet Safety Product Award.

Business Car’s Green award celebrates initiatives, tools, training and technology that “help fleets become more eco-friendly, while also delivering cost savings”, while Brake’s Fleet Safety Product award recognises “the product that does the most to improve fleet safety through innovation.”

Mark Roberts, Lightfoot CEO, said: “Being shortlisted for these awards is the perfect way to sum up the impact Lightfoot has on fleets and the world. We help businesses save money, we help save lives, and we help save the planet. Recognition is always nice but to be picked out specifically for the good our product does in the world, especially as we move ever-closer to our consumer launch, feels that little bit more special.”

Lightfoot was shortlisted and highly commended for 2017’s Fleet Safety Product award. It has high hopes for this year, with stronger data and a growing customer base to support their entry.

Sarah Plumb, Senior Fleet Officer at Brake, the road safety charity said: “The prestigious Brake Fleet Safety Awards brings together fleet operators and suppliers to recognise and celebrate the achievements of organisations and individuals going above and beyond in order to reduce the number of road crashes involving at-work drivers. We would like to say a big thank you to all those who entered and wish the shortlisted individuals and organisations the very best of luck. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a fantastic evening.”

Rachel Boagey, BusinessCar’s Features Editor, said: “Lightfoot’s entry into the BusinessCar Green Award really stood out to our independent panel of fleet experts, who noted that rewarding drivers for their better behaviour when behind the wheel can have significant cost-saving and efficiency benefits for fleets.

"The 2018 BusinessCar Awards are an ideal platform for Lightfoot to showcase its innovative technology to the fleet industry. I congratulate Lightfoot on their success in making it down to the last five in the Green Award. This is a major achievement and we wish them the best of luck in the final judging.”

Launched in 2013, Lightfoot’s in-vehicle guidance uses F1-style analytics to help drivers stay within their engine’s ‘sweet spot’, typically resulting in a reduction in fuel costs of up to 20%, cuts of harmful emissions by 20-30%, at-fault accidents by up to 60% and wear and tear costs by 40-50%. Designed to make smooth driving, fun, addictive and rewarding, Lightfoot has been widely used in the fleet sector by household names including Boots, Alliance Healthcare and Virgin Media.

Often called the ‘Fitbit for cars’, Lightfoot’s technology provides drivers with real-time feedback on how they are driving and incentivises smoother, more efficient performance via its dedicated rewards platform. Drivers unlock 100+ exclusive discounts on travel, dining out, and shopping and can compete in leagues and weekly prize competitions. Previous winners have turned their good driving into trips to Paris, Sonos speakers, and track days with Nigel Mansell.

Lightfoot will discover their fate at the Business Car Awards ceremony on 13 September and at the Fleet Safety Awards ceremony on 27 November.
